Do I really need to have someone right now? Is it really a need or just what I wanted? I’ve been trying to figure things out. What do I really need in my life now? I have this wonderful life now. I don’t need to waste time thinking of any school projects. I have already a job which supports only me and nothing else due to some society crisis. LOL. I have friends which make me happy and in some ways makes me think that I am really special.

Somehow, things that I don’t see bother me for some stupid reasons, I don’t have it and I want to have one. I have questions that need a lifetime before it will be given an answer and answers that need questions.

This time I realized something very important that I always take for granted. I know I am special in some ways people sees that I don’t see. It takes too long for me to realize these things but not too late to know that I possess such qualities.
For times now, I have been the source of jokes and a good example of a person that they love to make fun of. Sometimes, I try to take every silly thing they do (not to silly) and get a little bit annoyed.

There are also moments that I prefer to keep silent just for them to stop making fun of me. But sometimes I just love what they do and I love it now. It is because one person close to me helps me realize those things. I realize that I should never stops throwing jokes, however horrible or nonsense it may seem. For I know, me without uttering a single word makes a cheerless moment and even with a single word can make the word a nicer place to live in.

Sometimes, I want to feel the love of a man. In rare moments, I find myself wishing for a guy who can treat me as an equal yet love me with passion. And the passion is not sex. It’s the passion born out of love. Someone who is willing to be with me as I find myself.

Pero wala akong makitang lalaking ganoon. I have this fear that men meant for me doesn’t exist. Maybe I was afraid to be alone. What a sad life. Don’t call me pathetic. I don’t need a man. It’s just that maybe I just want to experience that little bit of happiness brought by the love of a man. But not just any man would do. I am not asking for everything. Its only the love, the passion, freely given at hindi demanded. And of course, that man must be a real man.

I want a man who understands me, na makakausap ko ng hindi ako mahihiya. Mali ba na gustuhin ko ang ganoon? God can’t seem to hear me. so, if you have accidentally read this, can you tell him for me? He should at least erase this yearning, this silly dream.

I am prepared to be alone, maybe. Living alone and dying alone doesn’t frighten me. What frighten me is leaving this world without ever feeling loved even for a moment.

This is supposed to be my third day in my tryout at a certain company. It is a hot sunny Wednesday. Unfortunately, I still need to end another 2 days here. I like what I’m doing. Its not purely work after all. I can still browse over the net. I can still have time to take my merienda. But what I don’t feel is the scenario inside the workplace. No one is talking. Every one is busy holding their mouse and looking straight at their monitors. Ako pa naman yong taong ayaw tumahimik. I think I am an example of a girl na makakakita ng frend kahit saan. But it didn’t work here.
Yes, I am happy because I have been dreaming of this work. I know it defines me. I still remember when I had my first interview. Someone ask me if I don’t consider my writing skill as one of my strength. Hmmmm…It’s one of my passion. Does strength and passion make a difference? Well, I don’t know.

I gotta feeling...that tonight’s gonna be a good night…

That was supposed to be the class team song last march 19 when CS and IT 4 students proudly present their project. Yes, it was really a good night because the class successfully launched it. And I am also proud that I belong to that class.

Without biased, UNIISYS was really a great system especially when talking about the effects it brought to the whole group. Team work, hard work, courage, optimism, even pessimism are just few of the things we exerted and learned from each and every one. It cannot be denied that all put forth efforts just to make March 19 possible.

All those sleepless nights we had are nothing when compared to the feeling when we finally reach the finale. We are happy because we will no longer have sleepless nights, deadly days and tiresome meetings. But it still makes me sad thinking that moments like that will never happen again even if these things are the cause of my haggard face, wrinkles, pimples and eye bags.

The best thing I learn from all these things is DISCIPLINE. Like every one else, organizing what you have to do are the best things you must learn in order to make things perfect. Yes, I admit that before I really don’t put extra effort on meetings. Waking up early in the morning was so hard for me. But soon I realize that since I belong to the group, I need to lend a hand and follow orders. Like one saying goes, “in order to be a good leader you need to be a good follower”. It may not be that big but I know that the success we have now will never happen if I did not tried to give every best I can as part of the group.

UNIISYS launching was one of the best memories I will treasure for the rest of my life. But this end is just only the beginning right? Well, still looking forward for every beginnings in my life…

I will give a little review of what is UNIISYS for those who don’t know what it means.
UNIISYS is a web-based system developed primarily intended for the benefit of the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP). It is developed by students from the Institute of Computing (IC) to provide online services for the University students, faculty, staff and visitors as well. It is composed of subsystems which caters various services to different service recipients.

The system is divided into various subsystems that offer a variety of services web-based. Unisys is composed of the following subsystems:

Natapos na!!! We are done with our research proposal project. One down and four more to go. At least we are through with research; there are no other reasons that I can’t focus with my other projects. Just want to thank sir RSG for being considerate. This is the first time I come to appreciate family day. Want to know why? Well, we are that eager to see a handwritten “ok for ring bind” in our paper that we even go to school on a family day. Well, it was really worth it when we make an effort to go to school even on the day without classes just to try for a consultation. It was nice sharing that day with Sir RSG. Thanks a lot sir. To my group mates, we’ve done a very good job.

Happiness makes you forget thing. I forgot that I still haven’t answered assignment 3. It will make no sense if we will wait for the others to help us in creating a series of questions because I know it will just take series of time also. The sad part is, even though we have finished our project, it is still possible that we will get an INC grade because we haven’t answered assignment 3.

I am going to review one of George’s entries entitled “Making Money with Article: Niche Websites” by Jo Han Mok. The study was all about making money out of making articles in the internet. According to Jo Han Mok (2009), we are never limited in what we can do with niche website marketing, unless we find out that we do not have the marketing skills or the needed funding to make it happen, otherwise, the sky is the limit.

According to Jo Han Mok (2009), choosing a good niche subject to base your website around is one of the most important aspects of making money off of your articles. This will give you a foundation to build from and you can target one general audience with a pack of keywords that they are most likely to be searching for. You should take each one of these keywords and use it for the basis of one article on each page. They may also find other pages that interest them, which will keep them returning to your site to learn new information about the niche subject.

The study reviews the existing evidence of the usability of open source software and discusses how the characteristics of open-source development influence usability. Evaluation
When I was half way reading this paper, I was thinking that the development of open-source software overlooked the importance of good usability. But when I was done reading, it made me conclude that open source community was just increasing its awareness of the usability issues. Improvements in the usability of open source software do not necessarily mean that such software will displace proprietary software from the desktop. Improved usability is a necessary condition for such a spread of factors involved.

Evaluation
After reading the title alone, it arouses my interest because information technology was really making such a big step to those companies particularly to those travel industries to remain competitive. It made those transactions related to travel more convenient, easy to access and less time-consuming. And it also help companies reduce their production cost while at the same time increasing their production cost.

Summary
The research paper discusses the primary role of the Internet on different kinds of business practices. It tells that internet is a significant factor in the price competition in the global market. It cited two important attributes that must be recognized in order to distinguish the difference in buying in the store from buying in the internet, namely digital and non-digital attributes of the products or the services. It also provides formulas which are used in presenting the probability of the effects of the internet in various aspects of business practices. It uses direct observations and statistics in derivation of the conclusion.

Evaluation
Upon reading, I realized that internet doesn’t always intensify price competition. Yes, it plays an important role in business market but it does not necessarily mean that there is an assurance that there are lots of people shopping in the internet. Even though there are lots of advantages given by the internet, evaluating the product’s quality cannot be made in the internet since it just provides description of the product which affects the evaluation of fair pricing.

Today, there are lots of means that exist in order for the researchers to get their name in print. I myself also wanted it. Sometimes, researchers published their works for financial self-interest because it is a great evidence of productivity. This will mean that once a research work is published, money comes after. Who else won’t want it right?

Publishing a research work is similar to completing an experiment. It has been said that a scientific experiment is not complete until the results have been published.¹ But before a research work will be published especially in top-tier journals, it also go through lots of selection process. Research papers that are published in top journals like CSP, ASM or i3E are guarantees that the research is exceptional.

Originality is one credible factor but there are still instances that people are still able to get their work published even if it seems similar to the previous published work. There are papers that are assessed as valuable confirmations rather than as original contributions to knowledge. Another consideration also in assessing a piece of research work is the manuscript topic. Mostly in top tier journals, a hot topic is more likely to be published than a paper dealing with a currently unfashionable subject.

The criteria publishers use as measures for accepting a paper is not a cut-and-dried process, it is infinitely variable and flexible. Many uses peer review for criterion but in particular this is not a simple criterion. Some journals may send an article to three to five reviewers and the editor make an informed judgment by weighing all reviews. Other journals may send an article to a single reviewer and make a simple yes or no decisions based on one review. Some journals may do a lot more editorial work with an author while others take manuscripts more or less as submitted.

Although the review process can be flexible, acceptance criteria are quite typical. Experts consulted offer simple advice for optimizing publishing success and many say influential factors include the need for clarity, originality of thought, completeness and good writing. But I think, mostly in top tier journals most elegant research is usually simple and direct.

However, since we are not all perfect even editors are also human; therefore they can be influenced by a name they recognized. Maybe that is also a reason why many papers includes the name of established scientist among their authors even when the established names may have been contributed little to the work. This kind of practice is frequently used even in some small institutions of peers.

Experiences gained also from previous publishing helps as well. Researchers who have already experienced publishing their research work know some of the pitfalls and obstacles that hinder the publishing process especially in the top-tier journals. Because once a person has developed a skill to publish a paper, the next papers are much easier to publish. Because publishing is the currency in which researches deal.

together with my teammates,i have now an approved topic. It was really a minute of happiness and fret. Blessed are those people who makes that day a one in lifetime happiness. Perhaps, I am thinking lowly because I feel so much delight that time leading my self to freak out. I must be paranoid.
It was really right that when you have suffered, it will soon be rewarded. But I know an hour after that will also be filled with lots of worries. The time is now starting to tick and take its turn to take it more seriously. I should better start working on it.

I know, this will be the time that my patience and perseverance must be physically powerful. I need to be more patient and be more patient. I won’t let my laziness be the reason of failure and time as an excused of not finishing it.

Perhaps I need to buy lots of coffee now.

How do you know if a piece of research work is good or not???

A piece of research is evaluated through its quality. Title itself explains what would be the research is all about. By one look at it, we can say how good a piece of research is. I keep on hearing that one research will be considered good if it benefits the needs and interest of one individual. Yes, it can be considered as it is but somehow having much with its content and relevance is a good piece of work, too.

Actually, there are lots of ways and several guidelines on evaluating if a piece of research work is good or not. Each organization has its own various ways in evaluating according to a specific area. Some professionals are already very well acquainted when it comes to criticizing or assessing a research work and some don’t even have a hint on how it can be evaluated.

In my own viewpoint, considering the fact that I am already introduced with some things regarding methods of research, one piece of research is good if questions are answered and research process are explained. According to the article I’ve read, “Whatever may be the types of research works and studies, one thing that is more important is that they all meet on the common ground of scientific method employed by them.”

As what I have said a while ago, by simply reading the title, we can already determine what the topic is all about. It should be concise but gives a good indicator of what the report is all about. On the other hand, the title itself will be considered of no use if the research topic will not arouse the curiosity and interest of the reader. It should be significant and adds additional knowledge. Like what I have experienced, research that introduces new idea is much better than making repetition of the existing studies. I remembered a friend who always tells me that a good problem defines a good piece of research.

Methods for gathering reliable information to answer a question or support an experimental hypothesis should also be reliable and enough to convey appropriate information. It denotes the principles that guide research and experimentation and also the philosophic bases of those principles. Data gathering should be as efficient as possible. Having this can result to a good research outcome. Data gathered should also be studied and analyzed. If the analysis was statistical in nature, statistical procedures must be suitable and properly applied to the data. The research should present its findings based on the results and the data gathered should not be manipulated by the one who’s doing it.

One piece of research is considered good if it provides brief and dependable resources. It proves that the researcher has done lots of readings. There are many separate disciplines that differ greatly in terms of the subject matter and the possible ways of studying that subject matter. In science, no single path to discovery exists and no one clear cut descriptions can be given that accounts for all the ways in which scientific truth is pursued.

Presentation of the research paper is also important. It should be presented as for the readers to understand it. Use of charts, statistics or tables and the correct use of terms must be understandable to others since not people are capable of understanding it especially if the subject matter is not their field of expertise. In doing research, lots of revisions are needed to ensure that uses of words are appropriate. Clarity of presentation which includes the sequencing and coherence of arguments is also important in evaluating a piece of work especially in research. Grammars used in the paper should also be correct. Some grammarians are more concerned with determining how the meaningful arrangement of the basic word and sentence building can best be described.

If all economists were laid end to end, they would not reach a conclusion. Life is the art of drawing sufficient conclusions from insufficient premises. In research, I really do not want to use the word true because there are only opinions some of which are preferable to others. Opinion formed after considering the relevant facts or evidences is a part that brings something to a close. Since it’s purely opinions of the researchers’ side, it must also give the reader the appreciation of what the study has revealed. Yes, reasoning draws a conclusion and makes us grant the conclusion, but it does not make the conclusion certain, nor does it remove doubt.

Such agreement of a conclusion with an actual observation does not itself prove the correctness of the hypothesis from which the conclusion is derived. It simply renders the premise that much more plausible. The ultimate test of the validity of a scientific hypothesis is its consistency with the totality of other aspects of the scientific framework. This inner consistency constitutes the basis for the concept of causality in science, according to which every effect is assumed to be linked with a cause.

How are they evaluated? It says that one research must be efficient, experimental, rational and replicable. The purpose of the research should be clearly defined and common concepts must be used. The procedure used in the research should be described in sufficient detail to permit another researcher to repeat the research for further advancement, keeping the continuity of what has already been attained.

Procedural design of the research should be carefully planned to yield results that are as objectives as possible. The researcher should report with complete frankness, flaws in procedural design and estimate their effects upon the findings. The analysis of data should be sufficiently adequate to reveal its significance and the methods of analysis used should be appropriate. It should attempts to fairly present all perspective. It should discuss critical assumptions made in the analysis such as why a particular data set or analysis method is used. Indicates how results change with different data and analysis and identify contrary findings.

The validity and reliability of the data should be checked carefully. Conclusions should be confined to those justified by the data of the research and limited to those for which the data provide an adequate basis. Greater confidence in research is warranted if the researcher is experienced, has a good reputation in research and is a person of integrity.

Last Saturday was considered as one of my most unforgettable experience and at the same time the most embarrassing one. That afternoon before that thing happen, me and lorena decided to go to the mall and have some moments together since we haven’t find any time to bond this past few days. On our way to the meeting place with some of our friends we suddenly called by a security guard. That thing made me confused. We are just walking and then suddenly we are called by a security personnel and ask to check our things if some thing is missing and tell us to follow him.

We ended up in security office inside the premises of the mall with a 21 year old guy, as what he said. According to the watcher, the guy was going to steal something in our bag. Since nothing is missing with our things, we can’t make any complaints and also we can’t help the guy. He had been telling that he was just trying to say “excuse me” because he was in a hurry and that he was innocent.

I don’t know if I will believe in him or if he was just acting innocent. With the reaction he had, maybe he was innocent but when he was asked to present some identification card or some money he could not present any. Paano siya uuwi kung wala siyang pera diba?

He’s begging for us to help him but we can’t do anything. Natakot kami na baka may gawing masama sa kanya ang management tapos he’s innocent after all. At baka palayain siya tapos totoo naman palang snatcher siya.

Kaya, we decided to left that four corner room and leave it all to the hands of the management.

the role of research topic in my future career...

It’s been awhile since formulating research topics is an issue. Everyone is struggling to come up with something wonderful but interesting. It was never easy and it is impossible for us to come up with something excellent because we do not have enough resources.

Now, I haven’t seen a problem yet, that however complicated, which when looked at in the right way won’t become more complicated. Where can I find one? That is the biggest question now. In research, the horizon draws back as we advance and as the power of patience weakens with age, the urgency of the pursuit grows more intense. It really requires a very unusual mind to undertake any analysis, I think. But I also believe that man can learn nothing except by going from the known to unknown. I know deep within me that it is not hard to think of a good research topics as long as I take them wholeheartedly.

According to Theobald Smith, research is fundamentally a state of mind involving continual reexamination of the doctrines and axioms upon which current thought and action are based. It is, therefore, critical of existing practices. The paper will no doubt be found interesting by those who take interest in it right? But research topic takes the biggest role before coming up with a research title because it will serve as the foundation of what will be within.

For me, the role of research topic in deciding my future career is either going exactly to what is planned or to what is not. Yes it identifies one’s career in the future. But it can also be nothing. Doing a research is just like doing something you want to turn out. It needs a lot from the researcher, much from its effort, strength and interest. But sometimes it leads to nothing. Even though one had read lots of literature regarding its topic, it won’t make any help if the interest is not there.
We don’t hold the future, as what is written. No one knows what will exactly happen tomorrow. We simply can’t foretell our future. Research alone could not give an assurance on what will happen in the future. But with regards to the knowledge and experienced you could gain while doing it would somehow be the way to a bright lights to future career. It is really true that there is no substitute for training and experienced.

Normally, as it is, Information Technology student’s researches are related to their field of expertise. The research topic would be a good foundation in which field I’ll be taking for my future career. They keep on saying that research is a contribution to knowledge. By simply doing research, you will not just contribute to the advancement of technology but also you are broadening you knowledge on your chosen field. Imagining a better research topic alone already helps on the way I think. What more when you are already focusing, doing experiments and even applying your research topics, right? There is no doubt that you will be more skilled and would absolutely shape you into a better IT person.

Mostly, when you are doing a research, especially for students, there will be an open door for new things. Students are not delimited to the four corners of the classroom and will no more rely on the things that the teachers usually give. Theories that we learned in school will be applied by means of using it in our research. A man who never tried to experiment in life is a fool. Just the same with doing research, things will turn out effectively if it is experienced through a different way.

Essentially, the role of research topic to one’s future career focuses only on improving one’s knowledge, a knowledge that could be an edge in finding a career. In the process of doing your research you need to observe things as they are, without falsifying observations to accord with some preconceived world view. By this, you attempt to develop broad imaginations that will soon become part of our understanding of the natural world. We have lots of incredible capacity and disciplines can differ greatly in terms of subject matter and the possible ways of studying our subject matters.

On the other hand, research has been called good business, a necessity, a gamble, a game. When you haven’t got the money, you have to think. Researches persuade one’s point of view because of its contributions. With regards to technology, research has been useful in making life convenient and of quality. With the idea of receiving much financial gains, I personally find it significant when it comes to deciding my future career.

When we are in a business world especially in the field of information technology, our knowledge and wonderful ideas is a great contribution to the success of the organization we are working and to the society as well. It will serve as the lifeblood of the company because it enables them to get the most out of their people and also learn from the people outside work.

They also said that research is a state of mind. Maybe it is or maybe it’s not. No one knows right? It really depends on the person who does the research. Because in some instances, they were just oblige to do it since it is considered as part of the curriculum. Some students don’t like doing paper works and find it a burden to do such things. Some also do have interest but don’t have the resources and some have ways in order for them to complete the research.

To sum it all up, since I’ve said too much already, the role of research topic in deciding my future career is not exactly the thing that will lead you to success. Contribution of the researcher has a great part in it. Without her interest, acquiring knowledge would be difficult. Yes, research topics can help us define our strength. We will be expose to a world, a world that will also become our world in the near future. It can help us land a job through the insights and ideas we gained in the process of conducting a research. It helps us to be competitive.

It’s been two months to be exact since I started imagining a research topic and exactly one month, I think, since I stop being a fool. Does it make sense? Not to the extent that I really stop, I just pause for a moment.

I’ve been dumb all these days thinking of some nice topics. But why is it that I couldn’t even find one. My classmates are not really giving efforts in it. The sad part is, I think I am one of them.

Jeez, better think now. I should start being a fool. It sounds really great after all.

It’s really true that the intelligence of human is beyond what we can imagine. I remember a Japanese drama series entitled ‘absolute Boyfriend’. It was all about a new invention of Mr. Namikiri, using a revolutionary system that will ensure the happiness of the next generation. A robot solely dedicated to love and with this robot, there won’t be any more women suffering. Life will really change having this kind of ideal boyfriend type. But it turns out that this robot develops real human emotions enabling him to truly love Riiko but also resulting in system malfunctions. It started having a will of his own and a heart that feels love. But is it really true that a robot that possesses emotions, intelligence, consciousness, and ego is a broken machine and defective merchandise or the programming of the one who invented it was just fantastic and intelligent?

How I wish I could have one too so that in my way to emptiness I can have someone to lean on.

A wishful thinking…

I am starting to lose my friends. I feel empty. Every time I am alone, I had this feeling of being left behind. It keeps on making me sad every time I think of it. Sometimes it gives me the impression that I can’t have the right to keep my friends within my reach every single day. I can now barely find someone to talk to just like those old days. I just can’t believe that they seem afar. I know it sounds selfish, but I want to have those moments again with my friends.

There are times when I just sit alone pretending that everything was okay. Why do I have these feeling of being neglected? Perhaps we are really getting older. We are in the midst of getting what we want in life. We are now adults with more important things to prioritize to the extent of losing time for acquaintances and social gatherings.

If there’s one thing in my life was missing, it’s the time that I spent with my friends having never-ending talks. Nothing can ever replace their mean but sweet words when giving me advices.

I terribly miss my friends, enough to die. Hope we can have those old times. I’d really love to see my friends giving me smiles again. But it can’t be what it was before.

Time falls, everything changes. Now is the time for me to learn on living a life on my own. Hugging and comforting yourself is a bit crazy, but it can be learned.

A drama series that will rip your heart into pieces and at the same time gained consciousness about the importance of being strong. We don’t know what will be God’s plan for us. After watching this Japanese drama series overnight causing my eyes to grow bigger I was left into conclusion. If the lead actress was me, I’d rather die early than being laughed at because of my disease. But her eagerness and strength to recover amazed me. But I know even if her mind already accepts the fact that her disease is incurable, deep within her heart is a part that won’t accept that she was dying. But despite everything, the people talking behind her back, the intent looks; she keeps on hoping that someday her doctor could find ways for a cure.

How I wish I could be as strong as her. Well, pretending to be alright is never that easy. In times like this, you will be questioning your love and faith with the Lord. It has been said that Lord God is the healer. That his name is more powerful than any disease you can name. is he being unfair if someone got a disease which is incurable?

A true story based on her own life, was originally written in first person. It is about a girl coping with her teenage life along with a degenerative disease. She keeps a diary of not only what she does but how she feels and the hardships she must endure. Initially, the diary's purpose was for Kitô to chronicle impressions she had about how the disease was affecting her daily life. As the disease progressed, however, the diary became Kitô's outlet for describing the intense personal struggles she underwent in coping, adapting, and ultimately trying to survive her disease. As she notes in one entry, "I write because writing is evidence that I am still alive."
Aya Kito was diagnosed with a disease called spinocerebellar Degeneration when she was 15 years old. The disease causes the person to lose control over their body, but because the person can retain all mental ability the disease acts as a prison. Aya discovers this disastrous news as the disease has already developed. There is no cure.

Through family, medical examinations and rehabilitations, and finally succumbing to the disease, Aya must cope with the disease and live on with life until her death at the age of 25.

Computer Science Researches has done many great things to improve lifestyles here on earth. Although computer science researches may have seen to be the core foundation for tomorrows’ foundation for development, it is still facing many problems that are oblivious to a person who is blinded by the impact it has brought. Computer Science Research could be the very beginning of future technological development. It has touched every single inch of areas they could examine and apply corresponding studies they could think of. Researchers are growing rapidly to cope up to the fast evolution of technologies and to the needs of the user.

Computer Science has been thought of as way of getting rich that is why many students have enrolled in this field. Schools and universities had crosses its boundaries. There are people who are engaged in researching from students to teachers. Also, the government has over-funded the life of science research because they think computer increases our intelligence, not our life span. This kind of approach to computer science researches would really work well since different aspects would be traced by different disciplines.

I have a friend who keeps on telling me that computer science researches could really go a long way in inventing something that could really improve the way we live. No one knows that with just a blink of an eye computer science researches could be one of the ways to take hold of immortality.

The article I have read is about the computer science research conducted by the research and development department in University of Georgia. They were trying to intersect computer science to almost all branches of sciences addressing the most difficult state in managing data and information as well as in providing algorithms that can be used to get the optimal solutions in any difficult problems. The department of computer Science in University of Georgia has faculties whose interest cover many of the growing and emerging research areas in computer Science. Particular strength includes theory, systems, information systems, and artificial intelligence. The application of computer science have been a big step to any field of specialties, from a traditional state processes to a more automated and systematic one, promising a great chance for progress and expansion of each field in terms of heir capability and scope.

One example of these researches is artificial intelligence, which also awakens my interest. Perhaps, we already know that artificial intelligence is the computer modeling of intelligent behavior, including but not limited to modeling the human mind. Artificial intelligence can be called as intelligent agents that demonstrate the functional essence of intelligent. Artificial intelligence is a science and engineering of making intelligent machines. The core areas of researches like these are about the presentation of knowledge, reasoning and learning, planning and decision making. It seeks to enable computers and machines to mimic human intelligence and sensory processing ability, and models human behavior with computers to improve our understanding of intelligence.

Another area of computer science that has found wide practical use is robotics, the design and development of computer controlled mechanical devices. Robots range in complexity from toys to automated factory assembly lines and relieve humans from tedious, repetitive, or even dangerous task. Robots are also employed where requirements of speed, precision, consistency, or cleanliness exceed what humans can accomplish.

The main focus of the robotics research group is the development of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). With AMRs there are two primary issues to deal with: (1) cognitive behavior, and (2) motion. Cognitive behavior addresses problem solving using sensory inputs and desired goals. Motion deals with aspects of movement from simple robotic arm movement to autonomous rovers in unknown environments. Cognitive behavior is the current focus of the research group. Two projects currently underway involve on-board image processing of video camera inputs for decision making, and the development of an evolutionary computing approach to controller configuration (possibly using field programmable gate arrays). In addition, the controller evolution project is attempting to provide for automatic (rule directed) behavior specification.

Scientist involved in the field of robotics study the many aspects of controlling robots. These aspects includes modeling the robot’s physical properties, modeling its environment, planning its actions, directing its mechanisms efficiently, using sensors to provide feedback to the controlling program, and ensuring the safety of its behavior. They also study ways of simplifying the creation of control programs. One area of research seeks to provide robots with more of the dexterity and adaptability of humans, and is closely associated with AI.

According to Ronald Arkin, director of the mobile robot laboratory at Georgia Institute of Technology, “Robots are good explorers because you don’t have to deal with life support systems that human would need. They’re easier to take care of and much more adaptable for hostile environments than people.” The presence of this technology is also making its name in our usual standard of living.

Summary
Nowadays internet use is growing progressively more than the price of gasoline and the society has also increased growth dependence on it. Internet is one good example of a highly distributed system that operates in unbounded network environments and it is known that it has no integrated security policy. The paper describes the survivability approach to guarantee that systems that operate in an unbounded network is dynamic in the presence of attack and will survive attacks that will result in successful interruptions. It also included in the paper some discussions of survivability as an integrated engineering framework, the current state of survivability practice, the specification of survivability requirements, the strategies for achieving survivability, and some survivability solutions.
The paper also talks about the capability of a survivable system to fulfill its mission in a timely manner is thus linked to its ability to deliver essential services in the presence of an attack, accident or failure. It is stated that a system is prone to attacks because internet itself has no central administrative control causing unauthorized persons to access a system.

Evaluation
It is been clearly stated in the paper that even hardened systems can and will be broken. Thus survivability solutions should be incorporated into both new and existing system to help them avoid the potentially devastating effects of compromise and failure due to attack. I find it very helpful especially in organizations in order to fully understand things with regards to protecting a system.
The paper explains everything. It is well presented enough for the reader to comprehend and it is doesn’t strain you eyes because the text are well presented.

Can Cryptography Prevent Computer Viruses?

Summary
Cryptography is one essential aspect to secure communications. There are lots of aspects to security, ranging from secure commerce and protecting passwords but cryptography can also prevent computer viruses. The paper will provide an overview of the ways that encryption technology imposes on virus protection and related security efforts, and provide some understanding of how encryption can help.
It is also included how viruses use encryption in order to spread faster with more protections for them to be more difficult to detect and analyze and the ways encryption can be very and useless in some cases for it can make virus protection more difficult. Cryptography can also be a barrier to effective virus prevention. There are a number of situation in which encryption of potentially infected data prevents the data from being examined for the presence of viruses. In particular, whenever encryption has been used to restrict the ability to read a dataset to some set of entities, and the entity attempting to check the dataset for viruses is not in that set, the encryption will prevent the virus check.
It is also briefly stated the use of cryptography in viruses, in antivirus software, and in general security systems. In some cases, he authors believe that cryptography will play an important role in the way our systems are secured in the future, both against viruses and against the more general class of emerging threats.

Evaluation
Cryptography is a particularly interesting field because of the amount of work that is done in secret. I now understand why there are a continuous flow of experts from other fields who offer cryptographic variations of ideas. There are in fact many extremely intelligent and well educated people with wide-ranging scientific interest who are active in this field. With the title alone, it can really awaken the interest of many people. It is clearly stated that even if cryptography is needed for secure communications, it is not by itself sufficient.
With regards to the format, it is not that awe-inspiring to look at. Perhaps it’s because it is not written the way it should be, in a professional and presentable format instead the text is just written in a simple manner. on the other hand, the main finding of the study is clearly stated and I found it impressive and informative, enough for me to understand what’s bugging on my mind.

Virus Bulletin 2010: A Retrospective

Summary
The paper assesses the most important viral disasters in the past ten years to show how they could have been foreseen and avoided from these technology trends. Mr. White shows an abstract on how antivirus companies take actions. Some sited virus problems are internet based spread, administrative overhead, rapid epidemics, complex viruses, and small devices but there were already emerging solutions to address this virus problem.
It has been said that there are four technology trends that were responsible for significant changes in the computing environment, which formed scenery for the virus problem. These are the (1) pervasive computing devices, (2) the decline of Moore’s Law that resulted to falling chip prices, (3) broadband access to the Internet, and (4) the rise of the e-commerce.
The paper attempts to take a humorous look at what might happen in the next ten years of the anti-virus field by simply looking back at the last ten years in the antivirus industry, from the new millennium until the next year 2010. The author imagines a simple view of the future where antivirus industries have been working on for solutions which effects to a year without major virus incidents and no overblown virus hoaxes.

Evaluation
Upon reading the entire paper, I was impressed by the way the author presented his paper. Although it was more on a simple review on the histories of viruses for the past years, it is still clearly stated in which it will be easier for the reader to read and understand. I also admire the author since he has a positive vision of what might be the possible things to happen in the year 2010.
In regards to the way it is presented, by just reading the abstract itself, you can easily comprehend what’s the paper is all about. But I don’t think that introducing your name is included in the introduction since I haven’t tried of it yet. The language used in the paper are easy to understand, that even if a person reading is not quite familiar with the concept may understand what the writer is trying to explain.

In relation to open standards, the Triple E or the EEE can be taken advantage by some vendors because it has been said that it can avoid vendor lock-in. This three E is Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish. In some cases, some vendors tried to make the most of open standards to their own with a view to lock in customers to their products by setting up these triple E tactics.

Embrace
Like what Hanna explained, it supports a particular open standard and it then applies the standards in its product and promotes them.

Extend
In implementation of the standard, the vendor add some enhancements to its original specification asserting that it is needed to address the needs of the customer in which it can make difference from other competitors. But it is usually made in areas where the specifications are not well distinct. But if ever the standard has scope for different implementation to distinguish itself, improved implementation should be done in which a necessary implementation can still interoperate with it.

Extinguish
In this case, if the improved presentation or execution of the standard turns out to be so generally used that majority of implementations support it, instead it effectively becomes the de facto standard. The vendor has now basically take control that open standard and made it proprietary.

“A vendor that is using EEE tactics will not ensure this and as a result, products from other sources may not be now compatible with this vendor's products. The problem really arises if the vendor's products are widely used. In government, the use of open standards is important and IT implementations are vital to ensure that it has adequate and reliable information to enable it to rule the country effectively. I look for a government that adopts open standards over the internet and I read that government of Croatian adopts an open source software policy and issued guidelines for developing and using open source software in the government institutions.

The Croatian government is concerned that proprietary software leads to too much dependence on the software suppliers. Open source software will make more transparent, according to the government’s document, entitled “Open Source Software Policy”

Domagoj Juricic, deputy state secretary at the Central State Administrative Office for e-Croatia and the leader of this project, explains what made the government publish the policy: "The use of information technology in government administration bodies is increasingly becoming important. So far, most of the software we use is proprietary software, so we cannot modify or complement it, or link software from different vendors. These software products impose rigid commercial conditions of use and limit our possibilities. In this way, government administration bodies may be led into a dependent position on the supplier of the software. This could lead to closed information systems, which make the success and efficiency of our eAdministration project more difficult.

COMDDAP Davao Expo 2009

Last July 2 this year, some IC students including myself attended a seminar showcasing the new innovations of technology. COMDDAP or Computer Manufacturer Distributors and Dealers Association of the Philippines held an annual IT event, COMDDAP Davao Expo 2009. It was held at the Grand Ballroom of Apo View Hotel in the city that will last until July 4, 2009. As expected, I was entertained as I keep on seeing the sights of all the technologies or products exhibited in every booth from different companies. That event was really interesting because it not just let somebody see the new technologies but it also give someone the idea that technology is one good example of a thing we called fast changing.

Want to know the shortcut to brilliant? In my journey during that day was the fact that I am amazed and the one who attracts my attention is the products of ADOBE. Through their product you can always communicate that way you wanted to.
However, behind these successful event is an association of the country’s top information technology businesses. I have here an introduction of this organization. To promote the sustainable development of the country’s information technology industry through voluntary collaboration of its member companies as their primary objective. The associations objectives are: promote the use of information technology and elevate its standards in the Philippines; make computers affordable and available to the masses; provide and create opportunities for users to develop themselves to their fullest potentials; supply the market with quality products at reasonable prices with good after-sales support; to work closely with the government, the private sector, and international entities in promoting the use of information technology; provide a forum of discussion on matters relating to the computer industry; and foster and cultivate harmony, cordiality and camaraderie among the members so that they can work together as one for the benefit of the industry.

The next session in the seminar was entertaining and you will really force to listen because they will be giving freebies like USB, T-shirts and mouse. The second speaker is a Market Development Manager from HP, Mr. Leonardo Zap. It was all about the new technology from HP which is the HP Thin Clients. A thin client or a slim client is a client computer or client software in client-server architecture networks which depends primarily on the central server for processing activities, and mainly focuses on conveying input and output between the user and the remote server. He also differentiates a thick desktop client from thin clients. As what I understand, in thick desktop clients, an application generally runs locally while applications run remotely in thin clients. Thin Clients has enhanced security, easy manageability, high reliability, environment friendly and has lower overall cost. HP Thin Clients can run well virtually on all types of applications it can run applications from stand-alone, to client-server, to web-based. One of its unique features is that it does not have any moving parts like the hard drive and fan but still it is more capable of performing most of the normal functions of a personal computer. Because the HP thin Client does not have movable parts, the machine can run on a lower power and more robust and can boot faster. Heavy lifting for processor or disk intensive applications can be done on the server. Thin clients have a much longer lifespan than standard computers and use significantly less power. Lower maintenance costs are another benefit as software application updates, virus scanning and patches can be executed on the server. Deployment costs are also reduced as thin clients can be remotely configured and do not need to be set up individually. Break-fix simply requires replacing the thin client.

This event is one of the best, so far, event I have attended. I learn a lot from it and hoping that there will be lots of the same kind of event to happen.

Last day, I was on a bus. At first, it looks as if everything’s okay. I did the things I usually do. I started my trip with a prayer, hoping that I will arrive safely at my destination. I won’t let the rough road which is always under construction makes me mad so I let myself sleep for a while since it will going to be a long trip.

The deafening voice of the passengers woke me up. Because I fall asleep, I am still in the process of summarizing the whole story. But whoah, they are talking about bombing and someone is being ambushed. All the buses bound to Davao oriental and going to Davao are all trapped and advice not to go on because the ‘crime scene’ is still in the process of clearing by some soldiers and police.

I’m trying to calm myself because panic won’t help solve what’s happening. But I’m already losing my self control when I saw one old couple who choose to go back to Davao and won’t want to risk losing their life. Without doubt, I started to call all the saints that could help and gave us safety.

We are stranded for about thirty minutes in a terminal sharing exaggerated stories about the bombing and the civilians involved. People really love to talk exaggerated stories. Kaya hindi umaasenso ang pilipinas. When the crime scene is already cleared, we started again our journey. This journey differs from my past journey because it might be the end of the world. I’d rather choose to see a witch than die. I started to fill my sense of beautiful things to make myself calm.

Even though it is already cleared, it was still no assurance that we are totally safe. I remember a story that people ensure all the lights in a certain area are turned off to prevent them from being seen. No one knows that behind the dark road due to black out is a full assurance of safety.

To make this story short, I arrive at my destination, safe and sound but with a little bit of fright. But I know lord God won’t let bad things happen. Just live your life with a prayer and you can at lease help things from happening.

I live in the place where they live. I do laundry and try to eat alone. I live a life that starts and ends inside a four corner room. Sometimes, living alone makes me realize to stop the longing for independence. It’s not that easy and it is always been never easy. Not unless, I guess, you have all the wealth.

I live in a dorm where students used as living and sleeping quarters. But for me it’s not just an ordinary place. It’s a home, a place where I can find refuge and safety, a place without adults.

I am such an observant person. I should start with the diagrams posted all over the school premises. To be honest, the first time I have seen that tarpaulin demonstrating the enrollment process, I did compare it to my own illustration when we have our assignments in one of my subjects the previous semester. It was awful because I really feel upset because for me it was good compared to what I have done. Then by this time, I came to realize that was it really that good? Maybe it will be much nicer if the university will use my work and perhaps it would be the start of my career. Char. How boastful I am. Well, I must be the one to appreciate my work, right?

On the other hand, when I saw it again these past days, I am already in a doubt. Being straightforward won’t kill me. Other than being frank I also need to see the other side of it. On the safe side, yes it was good since it was made and planned by the teachers. If you know how to read and appreciate pictures then you can reach till the last step.

I was thinking that compared to other universities, when you want to enroll in our school, you need to waste at least three days before officially enrolled. Why is it? Is it because the university has lots of enrollees to cater? Or we have lack of staffs to attend the needs of the enrollees? Or perhaps, the process itself is the problem and we don’t just realize it?

Enrollment Steps:
This is the old enrollment steps for old students:
1. Signing of clearance and other miscellaneous fees
2. Validate scholarship for scholars
3. Advising of subjects
4. Encoding of subjects
5. Students accounts for scholars
6. Cashier for payments of tuition fees for non scholars
7. Registrar
8. Library for library card validation

This is the old enrollment steps for new students: (based on my experience)
1. Pay miscellaneous and other fees
2. Filling up students record at the UGTO
3. Apply for a scholarship at the Office Student Services for those students who have scholarship grants
4. Enroll in ROTC or CWTS
5. Go to your college adviser for advising of subjects
6. Encoding of subjects for you to have Certification of Registration
7. Verify student accounts at the bookkeeper for scholars
8. Pay tuition fee at the cashier for non scholars
9. Registrar for the submission of all the necessary documents for the students to be officially enrolled
10. Apply for a library card
11. Picture taking for school id

When you will compare it, there is no difference. We are still following the same steps. The only thing that matter is that the enrollment system we are using is new. For old students, during enrollment time, students need to pay local fees first before any other transactions specifically headlight and other local council fees. Student’s clearance which is processed prior the scheduled enrollment is a must. In case that said clearance is not completely signed then she/he will not be entertained by the assigned class adviser. The students are obliged to bring all the receipts and the student’s clearance during advising as a requirement. During this period, the adviser will give a form commonly known as PRF for the student to write the subject he/she is advised to enroll for the semester.

When the student is already advised as to what subject he/she will enroll, encoding of the advised subjects will be the next step. In every college there are assigned offices or encoders who will handle this task. Sometimes this is where the students are stuck due to number of students per one encoder. After this, the student now have the COR or Certificate of Registration which consist of the said amount the student will pay.
If the student is a scholar, she needs to go to the bookkeeper window for the approval of their scholarship and for records purposes also. Otherwise, if you are just an ordinary student (katong scholar sa parents) you need to fall in a long line. This is where the student will pay his/her tuition fee. You also need to prepare coins because the cashier sometimes doesn’t provide coins. Partial payments are also accepted.

After paying the tuition fee, we need to go to the registrar’s office. There are assigned windows every college or department. The enrollee needs to present her receipts (headlight, local council fees and tuition fee) and also the student’s clearance before you will be officially enrolled.

When you are already officially enrolled, you need to go to the university library for the library card validation.

Nothing changes when it comes to the steps we need to follow because it is still the same. Even though the school has already constructed additional windows in the registrar it is still not enough to make the enrollment process faster. Students still experiences to line up in a long line and experience also the thing we called “singit-singit”.

Enrollment Procedure:
The first time the new system was applied to our enrollment last summer it was better though because there are only plenty of students enrolling. But in the start of this school year where in there were many enrollees, the new system was not doing so well. First factor is that the faculty and staffs still has to adjust to it thus making the enrollment process slow. Second, not only the staffs had to adjust but the new enrollees as well. But I strongly believe that students and staffs will soon be used in this system. Perhaps this is the first stepping stone to finding ways in improving our university. This institution has to stick not only with the high academic standards but also with the many method, system or structuring in order for the school to produce a smooth sailing system in all department.

Last semester, enrolment procedure in different colleges is different. Because there are only a small number of students in Institute of Computing, student doesn’t have to wait for their names to be called at the registrar’s office. But for the other colleges, they have to wait for them to be called. The problem with this kind of method is the students don’t have any idea when their names will be called.
I asked some of my friends who belongs in the college of education. According to them, the enrollment this school year is much better compared to the last one. Since there is a priority numbers given to each students. With this, you have already the idea if it is already your turn.

For IC students who are already used to directly going to the registrar’s office, the new scheme is making them feel embarrass.

I also have some observation with regards to the enrollment flow and that huge tarpaulin.
• With regards to the distribution of the certificate of registration, compared to the old system, there are four copies of COR, for the cashiers copy, registrars copy and for the students copy. But with the new system, there are just two copies given. In my own point of view, this kind of scenario makes the process time consuming. Since we have to wait for another extra time to wait for another copy. But I am happy with the paper they are using.

• On the other side, the new printer in IC department is a big help since it prints faster than the old one and it is not noisy.

• I also want to comment about the information printed in the COR. Instead of making it fourth year it is indeed third year. It hurts because I tried very hard in order for me to reach this year but suddenly in the COR I was still third year. I want this problem to be given an urgent solution for the reason that it affects the feeling of the students.

• About the tarpaulin, do we need to have that? According to my friends, it will be much better if they will just ask some friends than wasting time reading that tarp. It is easier for me to understand the old sheet they are using. Those enrollment process written in a simple coupon bond.

• The presentation of the diagram is not that so good also. As an IC student, I am more knowledgeable with regard to the diagrams given that it is taught in one of our subjects. Like what Kate said, the variance of the size of the arrows because there are different meanings to every shape and symbol or size.

• To give some credit about the good things, the chairs in the cashier, registrar and book keeper are the best things or help that the university have produce for students.

Since the university has always lots of enrollees every start of school year, I think it would be the center of attention for the school administration to create or build a new enrollment process that would solve the problem of “a three days enrollment”.

Nevertheless, if I were tapped by the university president to evaluate the new enrollment system implemented this semester I won’t hesitate to suggest to update not just the enrollement system but also the enrollment process. The administration is not aware about this problem, I think because if they do, they have already conducted some solutions. I will let them know and realize at the same time the sentiment of the students with regards to the enrollment procedure.

• Additional staffs or windows would be a big help especially in the cashier and book keepers office. Two windows over thousands of students are impossible to make a rapid process during enrollment.

• Additional staff in OSS that will entertain scholars upon validation and renewal of scholarship. In my years of existence in the university, this school year is the worst line of students I have encountered.

Forgive me if I am too much observant. A solution starts when there are mistakes and before you discover errors, it started by being observant. Being a student is not a lame excuse to keep on listening and watching and not doing anything because it is also our right to let them see what they haven’t seen. Let the higher administration hear the voice of the students because it takes two to tango.
I hope that this will serve as a stepping stone to improvements. Like what I have posted in the last assignment, I also believe that soon enough this university will develop far more better structure to make not just the enrollment process faster but with other systems or method that will contribute to the welfare of the school and to produce excellent and quality graduates always in the future. I just hope that with the university’s decision to make slight changes and development as well would lead to something that will function better.

I am getting crazy.

It’s getting harder each day. I have so many unfinished assignments. I still have to think of a better research idea to think that I also need to imagine 3000 words. hmmm….I am still not used to it maybe because my mind is still at rest.

I realize that I have so many things in life way back those times which I spend foolishly away. Every person inside the family circle is already disappointed. They expect a lot from me. Instead of giving me strength they are doing the other way around.

Still, I’m thankful because I am still alive…

The decision of the university to appoint two of our teachers to develop a new enrollment system for the incoming school year made the whole thing peculiar. We were not able to perceive or forethought the schools possible plan to make changes in our enrollment system. We were not prepared yet to adapt to it but still what can students do about it but to adjust to the new condition, to the new environment which the school had in store for us.

Until now, I cannot still think of what are the reasons why the university decided to tap in-house resources. Maybe the institution are just making use or taking advantage of the available resources they have. But I believe that it was one of the right choices the university had ever made. Having both of them in developing the new enrollment system is already an accomplishment. Why? Because they are not just skilled but they are one good system developers. They have the ability to do something well since they are not just accustomed but they also have skills which they usually gained through training and experience. I am pretty sure that these two exceptional persons are perfect and they best fit the qualification the university was looking for to develop such system we have right now.

The university has made the right decision in choosing both of them because the higher personnel of our school knew they have the potential even though it would mean losing them in our class. They could have chose to continue teaching and imparting their knowledge to us and we could have gained many lessons from them but still they accepted the offer of the university to become developers of our school system.

Way back those time when we are still using the old system, there are plenty of complaints about the students’ big payment every month just for that system. It is much better when we used our own resources than wasting a lot of money paying for the old enrollment system. Since we are a school of high standards and people and the society are expecting good, organized and better system from this institution and we are also keeping important records of the students, it is better that we just tapped in-house resources and considering the fact that we are not that moneyed, I think it is a good decision. Another reason is that the university has lots of faculty and staff like the two teachers they assigned in developing the new enrollment system. It is an advantage for the school to have those teachers to become system developers than hire another applicant from other institutions or from the outside association. Aside from that, those teachers are already considered as an expert in the field of creating system. They are brilliant enough to provide the needs of the school.

Is the shortage of budget the real reason why the university decides to tap in-house resources to develop the enrollment system? Is that actually the reason? In my five years of stay in the university I can tell based on what I have seen that we don’t have enough resources with regards to facilities but when we are talking about manpower, and then perhaps we are abundant. If we have skilled and knowledgeable personnel or staffs inside the campus, then I think the school should take advantage with them. It is already a plus for the campus to have these teachers. Their skills might be a big help or maybe a great contribution in finding ways and means to improve whatever the school needed to develop. And I think that is the reason why they decided to hire Mr. Michael Angelo Cagape and Mrs. Tamaracher Mercado.

But on the students’ side, the only thing that brought difficulty to them which they consider also to be a not-so-good choice is because they have to change to a different teacher in the middle of the semester which makes us depressed because we have to adjust again. I partly agree with what Kristine has posted that we could have learned a lot from them if they were not pulled out from our classes to develop that system. But I don’t have any issue with regards to the instructors they have as a replacement. They are both exceptional teachers and good enough to replace what Mr. Cagape and Mrs. Mercado had started.
Because of the hard hitting decision which the university has made, students do not have any choice but to adjust and to cope up with the change. The students have to shift to another instructor which was not really that easy. It was at first unusual to us. The shifting of one instructor to another became a slight burden to us. It is because the kind of instruction we were used to was suddenly replaced. That situation creates a big difference in our daily routine and also on the other teacher which also needs to amend with the schedules. The new ways rapidly replaced the old.

In a personal experience, it already follows that when you enter college you also go through wild imaginings. I have been into many sleepless nights. But regardless the facts that I am undergoing a little bit soul searching at this moment, projects are becoming much more manageable since I realize things that need to be realized.
Days seemed to pass unnoticeable. I still sleep late at night and woke up early in the morning. But I can’t find any reason to complain. And as exhausted as I am, I still have no regrets. It still amazes me because despite all of these I am still more willing to do the work.

I have been good in making intuition. Past weeks where one of the days I don’t want to remember. It makes me feel more exhausted knowing the fact that end of the semester is fast approaching and I can still not see a little progress in our requirements. But this day is different, I smell hope. Well, I see some light; it’s the light that reminds me that God is giving me path to walk now. Things are slowly going to the right track. I know time will come that the sufferings will soon be rewarded.

Seeing some groups losing their hope makes us more enthusiastic in finishing what we have started. Funny are the things that keep us strong. We never let ourselves feel we are tired because the more we accept the thought the more exhausted will become. Yes, as eager as we are we always tell ourselves that we can do even more (despite of deadlines). And for this, we find each other that we can make it and that’s there is no limits to what we can accomplish. For God never get tired of guiding us and sir RSG never get tired of reminding us that we can do better than what we expected.

Yesterday, after series of interviews we realize that when you have the will to make it, it keeps you going. Now, our group is now on the road of making these things happen. As long as the desire is there, we can do it. We never get tired and we never will. Mahuman ra lagi ni..Salig lng ta kang BRO…

Prototyping allows the users to try out a working model of a system before the actual system is complete. Explain how prototyping can be counterproductive if it creates task interference during training.

A prototype typically simulates only a few aspects of the features of the final program, and may be completely different from the final implementation. The usual purpose of prototyping is to allow the users of the system to evaluate developers’ proposals for the design of the final product by essentially trying them out, rather than having to understand and assess the design based on descriptions. It can also be used by end users to describe and prove requirements that developers have not considered, so controlling the prototype can be a key factor in the commercial relationship between providers and their clients.

Prototyping can be a big help since when it is made software and implementer can obtain feedback from the user early in the project. It allows the software engineer some insight into the accuracy of initial project estimates and whether the deadlines and milestones proposed can be successfully met and if it matches the software specification.

Prototyping can improve the quality of requirements and specifications provided to developers. Because changes cost exponentially more to implement as they are detected later in development. Because the early determination of what the user really wants can result in faster and less expensive software.

But despite the fact that prototyping improves and increases user involvement it can somehow produce problems or difficulties instead of helping to achieve a goal especially when it creates task obstruction during training. It can create insufficient analysis since focusing on a limited prototype can distract developers from properly analyzing the complete project. This can lead to overlooking better solutions, preparation of incomplete specifications or the conversion of limited prototypes into poorly engineered final projects that are hard to maintain.

A key property to prototyping is the fact that it is supposed to be done quickly. If the developers lose sight of this fact, they very well may try to develop a prototype that is too complex. User can become stuck in debates over details of the prototype, holding up the development team and delaying the final project.

who is responsible if the component fails?

If one person has written a component but others have revised it, who is responsible if the component fails? What are the legal and ethical implications of reusing someone else’s component?

Some scenarios these days are copying others work with or without the authors’ knowhow. But sometimes it leads to failure of a component for the fact that incorrect revision takes place. First issue of incorrect revising is not getting the real idea of the original author. But who’s to be blame when such things happen? Is it in the side of the original author or the one who revised it? Sometimes we revised work in order for us to correct, update and improve the original text but usually we lack analysis and better perception of the point of the original component.

When we revised someone else’s component, we come to different conclusions and update previous estimate in order to make it more accurate or even realistic. But the fact that nothing ends up perfectly makes me apprehend that both of the two (less from the original author and more from the one who revised) are legally responsible for whatever failures occur. Considering the time when the component hasn’t revised yet, we don’t know if it is correctly written and can lead to more errors when revision takes place.

But unauthorized revising of someone else’s component has legal and ethical implications. They say that when a things has been done and done well, take it and copy it without hesitation. As people in a new generation we prefer to believe that improving someone’s work is much easier to do than doing it from scratch. However, revision of others component without the absence of making it perfectly done guarantees the originality of a thought.

Under the design review procedures, some firms provide a preliminary and critical design review. Non-functional requirements describe the restriction of the system between systems that limits our choice for constructing a solution to the problem. In systems engineering, non-functional requirements are requirements that specify criteria that can be used to judge the operation of a system rather than specific behaviors. This defines how a system is supposed to be. But how can we demonstrate that these requirements are testable? How can we exhibit the reliability of a system that is required never to fail?

With computers becoming a highly factor nowadays, there is a decisive need to ensure that systems continue to function even when a component fails. The reliability of a system is the probability of failure-free software operation for a specified period of time in a particular environment. Identifying non-functional requirements are also an important factor affecting system reliability. Measurement in software is still in its infancy. No good quantitative methods have been developed to represent software reliability without excessive limitations. Various approaches can be used to improve the reliability of software.

With the advent of the computer age, computers, as well as the software running on them, are playing a vital role in our daily lives. We may not have noticed, but with a continuously lowering cost and improved control, processors and software controlled systems offer compact design, flexible handling, rich features and competitive cost. People used to believe that software never breaks. Without being proven to be wrong, optimistic people would think that once after the software can run correctly, it will be correct forever. A series of tragedies and chaos caused by software proves this to be wrong. These events will always have their place in history.

Software can make decisions, but can just as unreliable as human beings. Fixing problems may not necessarily make the software more reliable. On the contrary, new serious problems may arise. Once perfectly working software may also break if the running environment changes. This makes us wondering whether software is reliable at all, whether we should use software in safety-critical embedded applications.

VG…wow...For once on my life, I will never forgot that handwritten two letter word. It’s as if my world stops turning. (ana jud na bsta first time…)Consultation is always as terrible as ever. But sir gamboa make us feel comfortable every time we consult him. Perhaps it’s because of our beautiful faces. (paitah!!!)

I think it’s safe to say we all have some heavy feelings these days. Deadlines are already coming. We need to be ready for future breathtaking consultation. Granted that there are days that I think I won’t be able to do it – but I have fallen into a rut of assuming I can’t rather than committing a try. Completing Planning phase was always fun. Maybe it’s a good start. We will just ensure that we will still stay on track.

The relief I feel as I see things put into their place will give me more room to explore and open up a clearer path to where I want to go. How about a round of applause sa atung pogi na teacher???

Honestly, what is it about a thing that brings about this scenario for memories? Well, I think it’s because of the VG.

Mistakes may be made on the part of the software developers or indeed may be made on the part of the entity requiring the software system. So who exactly is responsible when once a system is built and the system harms someone either physically or financially? In developing systems there are many problems that can result from faulty assumption or system failures which are perceptibly made by the development team. A system, which was developed by the collaboration of a costumer and the user, can encounter some important factors that are needed to ensure that the system would do well.

Since developer takes the biggest role in the making of the system, if anything happens, it is his responsibility. It is already by default that once you are a developer you have the great factor that is important contributor to a system failure.

Since some of the user is improperly trained then the likelihood of them making serious errors is increased due to their lack of knowledge of the system. When a system harms someone physically or financially, user should not be held reliable due to lack of training. A user and a costumer who makes a mistake should not be reprimanded for it if they have not been trained to deal with it. When a developer has made the user and costumer well-trained, then the end users will significantly reduce harms and improve the integrity of the systems.

The responsibility for failures caused by many factors falls squarely on the developer responsible for creating and maintaining the software system. As such measures to reduce poor development practices must center on the development team itself.

Project managers can increase their productivity in a variety of ways. The most obvious methods involve automation and computerization which minimize the task that must be performed by employees. The growth of productivity – output per unit of input – is the fundamental determinant of the growth of a country’s material standard of living. The most commonly cited measures of productivity are in terms of a unit of size per unit of time. One cannot have sustained growth in output per person.

Regarding the first issue, measuring productivity in terms of number of lines is somehow futile. It is for the reason that different languages can produce different numbers of lines of code. Nowadays, as a programmer who always runs out of time, we typically make line of source codes shorter but concise to make it easier to decode and manage.

Productivity in lines of code cannot also be measured until an implementation starts. It is only generated during the implementation period. Measuring productivity through this kind of way can somehow take no notice of the other phases of development. Simply because we cannot identify its efficiency not until it’s implemented.

But, on the other hand, programmers may structure code to meet productivity goals ineffective because a programmer is already known on manipulating program making it more efficient.

On a real scenario, there are only very few software projects which are completed in time. As a student, we are trained to face and focus on what we need to know about risk in the pursuit of delivering software projects. Through this we are practicing our best techniques of risk analysis and to be able to develop the process for various organizations.

When we are in the midst of making a software project we always think a lot of risk like we cannot complete the system and will not meet its user needs. That is why we understand its function better than we could for a successful information system development. During the time of making “so called student projects” we face this kind of risk that has been consistently identified by all.

• Lack of Technical knowledge
Since we usually do the research we don’t have enough information for us to better implement our project effectively. And because we are just a simple student we don’t have enough will power to ask questions and help from the people whom we know has the knowledge.

• High cost of requirements
Being in a world with low cost of living, it is and always a problem for us to acquire high cost requirements. This one can also be the reason for project delay or even the worst.

• Time management
Since we don’t have all the time, making it ours is also a main problem. In a group we usually quarrel when managing our time schedule. Sometimes, since night time is the only moment we can gather ourselves together we usually end up making our projects in a sleepless night leading us to force our self doing projects overtime.

• Unpredictable changes and the lack of will to overcome it
As a student, we usually have the aura of being anxious when it becomes to dealing changes. We always keep on running to changes. In a real scenario, we typically lose self-esteem that we end up losing also our self confidence and the drive to finish project.

• Lack of comprehension
Misunderstanding between group members can also be determined as one of the major risk in making projects. We usually fail to understand or interpret something correctly. Minor disagreement can sometimes lead to project failure.

Since risk are everywhere we need to make it part of our own. If we are fugitive when we encounter it, if we have used our strength in fleeing it will surely prevail. But if we do the seeking we will be able to destroy it. If we want to cease being hunted, we must become the hunter.

Before discussing briefly why it takes longer to develop a utility program than an application program and longer still to develop a system program I just want to explain further there differences. Utility program performs a specific task related to the management of computer functions, resources, or files, as password protection, memory management, virus protection, and file compression. Application program is any program designed to perform a specific function directly for the user or, in some cases, for another application program. Application program use the services of the computer’s operating system and other supporting programs.

Why is it that it takes longer to develop a utility program? It is because this program that is designed to perform a particular function. It refers to software that solves narrowly focused problems or those related to computer system management. It functions more composite compared to application program. An application program carries out two types of task: those related to work being performed, such as accepting text or numbers input to a document or spreadsheet, and those related to maintenance chores, such as managing files and displaying information on the screen. These maintenance chores are performed by the computer’s operating system, and an application program interface provides the program with a means of communicating with the system, telling it when system-level task to perform and when.

How can you determine if outsourcing is advantageous to your organization? Would you recommend outsourcing to USeP?

When we are in the midst of making a decision we usually visualize everything first before making moves. How can I determine if it can add improvement to my organization if I recommend outsourcing? Is there a need to outsource? In today’s time, outsourcing is already commonly introduced to every organization. Is it also for the reason that it offers a lot than in-source.

Yes, considering the fact that when we outsource we will have an access to a larger talent pool and a sustainable source of skills. But if I suggest outsourcing in my school it could be one of the biggest decisions to be made. Because when we outsource, it also means that we are withdrawing the business function involving the transfer of people and the sale or resources to a provider because we are hiring somebody else to do all or part of the work instead of the person or company originally hired.

I think there is no need for outsourcing in USeP because we have lots of human resources that are expert in the field of creating systems and things like making databases. We have lots of staffs that are brilliant enough to provide the needs of the school so there is no need for us to outsource. It will just cost us money to outsource while in fact we can still save a little amount if we just hire people inside the school to do the work. Yet, we can still acquire outside the organization to improve our ideas so that we can develop better systems.

Yes, it will advantageous if we outsource if the organization has limited staff to do a certain job in-house. If we want to improve something better that we think our resources cannot do the job. There is a need to outsource if we want to have access to operational best practice that would be too difficult or time consuming if we develop it in-house. And if we want to standardize our business process and that is the time we outsource.

Although outsourcing offers a lot more, the school can minimize the cost if they will hire people inside the organization and we can still make sure that our concept and design are out of harm’s way and protected.

Step 1:
During enrollment time, students need to pay local fees first before any other transactions specifically headlight and other local council fees.

Step 2:
Student’s clearance which is processed prior the scheduled enrollment is a must. In case the said clearance is not completely signed then she/he will not be entertained by the assigned class adviser. The students are obliged to bring all the receipts and the student’s clearance during advising as a requirement. During this period, the adviser will give a form commonly known as PRF for the student to write the subject he/she is advised to enroll for the semester.

Step 3:
When the student is already advised as to what subject he/she will enroll, encoding of the advised subjects will be the next step. In every college there are assigned offices or encoders who will handle this task. Sometimes this is where the students are stuck due to number of students per one encoder. After this, the student now have the COR or Certificate of Registration which consist of the said amount the student will pay.

Step 4:
If the student is a scholar, she needs to go to the bookkeeper window for the approval of their scholarship and for records purposes also. Otherwise, if you are just an ordinary student (katong scholar sa parents) you need to fall in a long line. This is where the student will pay his/her tuition fee. You also need to prepare coins because the cashier sometimes doesn’t provide coins. Partial payments are also accepted.

Step 5
After paying the tuition fee, we need to go to the registrar’s office. There are assigned windows every college or department. The enrollee needs to present her receipts (headlight, local council fees and tuition fee) and also the student’s clearance before you will be officially enrolled.

Step 6:
When you are already officially enrolled, you need to go to the university library for the library card validation.

Even though it takes a larger risk than the other type of change it has become the most widely applied organizational change to many other organizations for it changes the overall business process thus making a better impact if it is a success. When dealing with projects it is much easier to finish it ahead of time to avoid rushing things. The core of the project plan is the project schedule which is used by the project manager to entrust people to the project and show the organization how the work will be performed.

Scheduling techniques doesn’t contradict the idea of Brooks simply because both statements are true. When working with projects we are normally used to work in teams than working by ourselves. That is why the more people who work in a project the more it shorten development time which is usually true by some cases. Why? Because there will be more ideas if there are lots of people working. Sometimes it is better to work on a project with many people on a team than on trying to build a project without any person you can ask for help because it will be much easier to estimate in order to create something that looks like a schedule. Adding people to a project can shorten development time.

On the other hand, adding people to a late project can somehow create tricky situation simply because you still need to orient them the flow of the project. It is also for the reason that each date in the schedule is estimated, and if those dates do not have the agreement of the people who are going to do the work, the schedules will almost certainly be inaccurate. Making decision is a matter of life and death. If we want our business to be effective, we need to be able to make good decisions. If we can learn to this in a timely and well considered way, then we can have well-deserved success.

In a business, being practical is a great factor to success. Based on the situation, it is particularly powerful if you have a number of good alternatives to choose from and many different factors to take into account. This makes it a great technique to use in almost any important decision where there isn’t a clear and obvious preferred option.

I think Manny should try getting a list of options and the factors which is need to be considered. Manny should take into consideration the people who will be working if the system will be made in-house and the allotted time to finish the entire program. Since it is not clearly stated if how many peoples are involved in the said projects, we just need to think of the other possible reasons.

When we are referring to big businesses, outsourcing is more illustrious. It is because it improves the quality through contracting out the service with a new service level agreement. They have an access to operational best practice that would be too difficult or time consuming to develop in-house. When big companies outsource their information systems they will have an access to a larger talent pool and a sustainable source of skills. Outsourcing is subcontracting a process. Everyone’s life is driven by something. I am now again in the midst of nowhere, confused about what’s really my purpose in life. Being confused is not a bad thing. It’s totally natural. But the fact that I don’t really exactly know what really drives my life makes me think more. My professor tells me that I need to awaken my desire to seek the truth about who I am and why I am here. I know that it’s hard and always impossible to define the real meaning of life without having a purpose and the will to make it done.

That is why I keep on starting to construct a design for my life – something that I want to happen and be open to possibility to move on if I fail. What I am now is not merely enough for me to tell that I already found my purpose because our life is driven by something. And I am still on my way on finding what really drives me.

When will I become skilled at taking risk? last day when our SAD group had a quick chitchat (open forum) with our SAD professor about our proposed system and as expected, he keep on asking us that “is it worthy?” Last time, we are asked if the system we proposed are ‘kindda’ worthy of our four years learning at the university. If I will be asked, I would really say “yes” (for some reasons) but on the other side it’s not really worthy. I am a USEP student. I am known to be one of the intellectual giants in the institute of computing. But why is it hard for me to please my self that I can do better than what they think of me?
Upon dealing with challenging proposal, I never really open my mind perhaps because I am not ready to accept failures. I can always think of better ideas, far more challenging than we are proposing now. But I can never deny the fact that when time comes that we will be in the point of implementation, we can’t finish it completely ---- far more than an intellectual giant do.

What am I supposed to do? I need to take a night to reflect. How sad. As far as I know as regards with what I am, I will really need lots of whole night for me to think and reflect before I can realized what am I doing and what I need to be doing.
Not taking risk affects me self-confidence, self-worth, what I do and what I do not do in life. Maybe I am so stupid not to trust my own intuition, capacity and thoughts.

I am struck, not just once but twice. Do I need to hear another one before I will be able to realize what I need to realized? Its time to wake up now and I now I can always do better. Maybe it is just a matter of self-possession and a lot more trust in what we can do.

But HOW? Or maybe the right word is WHEN?

Every process used in systems analysis is long and difficult. But no other part of the process is immense that it cannot be learned. I am the type of person who always makes a good first impression and find reading a humane habit. Taking into consideration the way I view my true persona, I think it will be more comfortable for me using both the document review and a little support on interviewing. Gathering information on the field leads and expands my professional network for the main reason that in interviewing I am the one who initiates the discussion. But based on my personal experience in doing interview, I am not usually satisfied with the information I get. Maybe because I am not a good interviewer or it can also be the interviewee side. Sometimes companies typically won’t give much information specifically that private matter. That is why a need for document review can absolutely fill the missing information I need to know. The main reason why I feel comfortable with document review even if I need to sit in front of a computer and review thousands of pieces of stored information is much simpler and hassle free. Having the aura of a chatty person, every time I do interview while facing executives is always a one way of boosting my self confidence.

When talking about the other side of me, I usually misunderstood by some because I like observing people passing behind me (even if I am in church..peace). But whenever I do go in a company study I set aside that habit because I know observing won’t help me gather better information.

Although I view interviewing a very formal approach in data gathering because you need to follow basic guidelines for interview etiquette I also find reviewing documents a very interesting and a challenging thing. But even if I am comfortable with this kind of technique a proper review is important for proper production because failure to ensure accurate assessment can easily result in many dangers.

There are lots of things we can do and have in order for us to achieve our real objectives in life. We breathe because we take actions. Life can be less complicated if we visualizes first what we will need to become so that we will know what road we need to take. In achieving our own objectives in life, typically the desire for success needs necessary course of action together with the will of doing it. I would prefer both of the approach because we cannot always foresee things; we just plan things in preparation for the future challenges soon before we can make mistakes. We all know that being predictive can do a better part in achieving these goals. It is because we need to predict and plan everything ahead of time but everything in this world changes so if time will come that those plans fail, tendencies are we will end up a failure. But going with the flow with a little alliance of being predictive can make every purpose much easier.

In connection with our objectives in life we need to have a cycle as a guide in achieving our goals and the things we aspire. Following steps can be a little complex because we need to take every steps one step at a time. But having these steps implemented can help in putting things in place.

A lifecycle development begins in the determination and the strength of the character doing it. To make the most effective ways of achieving our goals in life are as follows:

• Visualizing the future

We need to visualize mentally and emotionally where we want to go so that we can have a better foundation if we fail. In these step we need to have a strong desire of what we will become for when time comes that we face failures we won’t easily be affected because we have these intense feeling that we MUST achieve that ambitions in life.

• Setting a plan

In every aspects of life, setting a plan comes first. But in pursue of success we need to think about everything first before making plans. How can we make plans if we don’t know where we want to go, right? In setting a plan we need to be more specific and it must be achievable. If our aim is as high as the highest mountain we need to set a plan that can also reach the highest peak. In relation to what is happening now, just an example, as a USEP student we usually don’t have an exact number of grades but as long as we pass it is already a great achievement for us. These kind of approach needs change because it can only make us a failure. If we have plans in life, we need to aim a grade far better that what we expect.

• Taking actions

In every plan we make we need to take everything into actions. What’s the use of planning if we are not making moves in the achievement of that plan? Taking actions is like a matter of life and death. Every small action has bigger chance of either success or failure. But we need to think of our main objectives in life so we can create creative actions.

• Evaluate achievements

In every plan we take we need to have a small recap in order for us to know if we are doing good or we need to change our actions. We will know if we are already in the peak of our objective and if we face failures due to failure actions we need not to feel frustrated. Just think that blessed are those who suffer.

• Plan again if not doing good else continue making actions

After the evaluation, if the plans we make are not doing good we need to plan again and make it better this time. We need to be positive. We need to go back from the planning stage instead of working on some problems. And if our actions are doing great, we need to improve those actions for better outcomes.

Planning won’t end; it is just the circumstances stops if we will prevent it before it gets worse. That is why in setting plans and taking actions we need to be more precise and tight. Because life starts at the point we make it.

Why create change?

Today, youth have grown up under the threat of having no future at all. Fortunately, this is the real reason for me to be optimistic about my future. This depends on how I utilize the present. My fate, however, is the least of my worries. I am far more concerned with what does the future hold for me. Having the thoughts about where will I want to go and what I want to be is an effortless thing to think. I am only afraid of the future, a future in a world characterized by threats. This thing haunts my vision of the future. Why should I bother to think of my future, the worlds going to blow up anyway? It seems that our efforts are just doomed to failure.

For that reason, we need to create change. We have the right to manage earth’s future. Human rights have proved to be disastrous, leaving the present generation a legacy of wretchedness and the most miserable of future prospects. But as these things start to occur, we must raise ourselves and lift our heads up. Its time for us to change starting from ourselves and show the world that we are still worthy of the things god have given us. Let’s make the earth a place of love, a place where everyone is free. The things that we keep on doing are just making our life a little bit more complicated. Maybe it is already the time to do things the other way around. By now we know what keeps on making our life miserable; perhaps it won’t kill us if we stop doing it. Life is really simple but we insist on making it complicated. Not everything is meant to be but everything is worth a try.

The whole thing changes tomorrow might be different because there is an appointed time for everything. We need to start doing and creating change. This coming New Year might be the good way to start. But should we need to wait for the New Year to come? We should start making change yesterday.

Think about your approved/proposed systems, is it worth the three or more years of learning you get from the university? Describe how you arrive with this proposal.

Four years of learning was really a true help in boosting our hidden knowledge. The question now is am I using this knowledge?

I was struck by the way I uses my knowledge. It made me idiot when my teacher keeps on repeating our proposed system all the time during our SAD1 class. (Maka hurt baya to. ) He keeps on saying that our proposed system is not worth the three years of learning we get from the university. For more than three years of learning information technology I have already acquired different types of knowledge related to IT (programming, creating and designing systems). We have been taught such knowledge that leads to the development of new ideas, skills, and understanding. We are task to look for a company and proposed system (as a requirement for SAD1 subject). Our group looks for a company that can help us in completing this requirement. We encounter such series of group meetings for us to plan better. At first, our group decided to take Legacy Group as our company we have decided to propose a cashiering system for them to be more at ease when they are doing their work. Our proposed system was already approved by Ma’am Tammy but suddenly Legacy Group told us that they cannot entertain us because they are too busy. It was sad news but we then find another company. We decided to take Barangay Hall of Buhangin (as a last resort). When we conducted an interview there, the group then realized that we need to propose a much bigger system (I think) because the system we suggested comprises of subsystems. For me, it will be a huge responsibility for us, to think that the system we will be creating is a big one.

But I am still in a doubt if we can completely create, design and implement the system. Even if we are on our fourth year in the institute, we are still in the level of challenging our self in completing systems. Jade, one of my classmates was right when he said that coding is a little bit difficult. But our teacher was also right that IC students in USEP must be capable of doing these things. We are known to be globally competitive students, how can we find job outside the school when we don’t manage to create just a small system?

Learning takes place when we learn. When we keep on circling on the same circle we are bound to fail. How can we make it to the top if we won’t try making risks? I now that I am still afraid of taking risks for I don’t want to be held responsible if problem come. I don’t want to take risks because I am afraid that we can’t complete the system we proposed. But I was born as a globally competitive person. Maybe our group needs an assembly for us to come up on a more perfect idea. Given an option that the proposed system should be web ready for a more challenge work, it still remain as an option to our group because we think that it is more difficult. But we are working on it. We just need to freshen up our mind and have some Christmas vacation…

Just for tonight I want to be happy. They say that Christmas is all about love. I think god doesn’t want me to be happy. Why?
I keep on pretending that life is good. I keep on believing that there will be lots of love this Christmas. All throughout my 19 years of existence I still don’t feel peace and love during Christmas. I always wish that someday we can celebrate it not just with food on the table but with my whole family celebrating with love and peace in their hearts. I am already excited this Christmas season because my eldest sis visited us from a far away land but suddenly when we are on our way to a place where we will be celebrating the season, all of a sudden a bad news struck us all. My nephew needs to be admitted at the hospital for some reasons. Then, for this reason we need to cancel our trip and celebrate Christmas at the hospital.
I can’t feel the spirit of Christmas for I am not feeling it..it made me sad and alone. Why.??.why..??

Teasing and insulting are sometimes one of the cruel pastimes of most young ones. Far form being good-natured fun, however, the teasing amounted to discrimination. Let me share a friend’s experience of this so-called good-natured fun. Being one of the few girls in class, she has been the butt of peer cruelty. Being her friend, I am wondering how she still continue living her life in school with all the teasing she receive everyday. Likewise, insults seem to cut her down to size. Insecurity, jealousy, and low self-esteem are thus often the reason for ridicule. Why, then, should you lose your self-esteem because some insecure youth has lost his? Do not hurry your self in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones.

Yes, why should you take teasing seriously? Granted, it hurts when someone pokes fun at your figure or finds amusement in your face. If what is said is not obscene or irreverent, try to see the humor in it. There is a time to laugh, and taking offense at playful teasing may be an overreaction. Don’t pay attention to everything people say.

Try displaying a sense of humor when being teased. So do not let contrary talk by peers break your spirit. When needed, show a sense of humor. Respond to evil with kindness. Am I ready to date?

In many lands, dating is viewed as a means of romantic entertainment or a fun activity. For some, a date is a formal, structured affair. For others, a date simply means spending sometime together with someone you like of the opposite sex. Dating was not the custom in Bible times. Nevertheless, when carried out intelligently, cautiously, and honorably, dating is a legitimate way for two people to get to know each other. And yes, it can be enjoyable. But does this mean that I should date?

On the other hand, the reason why I didn’t date simply means I fell pressured to do so. Dating is just a part of a natural development as a person. For one thing, dating is a serious business. It is a part of the process of selecting a marriage mate. Admittedly, it may be the last thing on the minds of most youths who date. In the long run, dating for any reason is likely to result anything but fun. Why so? What’s the sense of dating? It can be a waste of time.

Am I ready? God tells young people: “Rejoice, young man or woman, in your youth, and let your heart do you good in the days of your young manhood, and walk in the ways of your heart and in the things seen by your eyes.” Young people do tend to walk in the ways of their heart. Yet so often those ways, which seems to be such fun, end up bringing annoyance and calamity, a calamity that can make both lives miserable. Does this mean, then, that dating itself is a source of self distraction? Not necessarily, right? Just learn to handle it.

The last time we have a discussion about this topic; it was reported by two of my classmates in management information system. Even though it was reported clearly (I think) the explanations given are still a bit unclear to me. But after reading the fourth assignment I was forced to have some thorough study or even comprehensive reading about the topic. But reading does help. It sure does.

Before I will jump into many conclusions and expounding into thousands of words what are the steps for critical success factors approach, I will discuss first what critical success factors really mean and where it first originated. The CSFs approach was applied in case studies carried out in the UK universities. It was applied also as a component of a strategic information management (SIM) methodology put forward by Wilson. The CSFs approach was combined with the value chain concept by Porter in order to form an information audit. The idea of identifying critical success factors as a basis for determining the information needs of managers was proposed by Daniel in 1961 but it was popularized by Rockart on 1979. The ideas were very simple: in any organization certain factors will be critical to the success of that organization, in the sense that, if objectives associated with the factors are not achieved, the organization will.

Critical success Factors define key areas of performance that are essential for the organization to accomplish its mission. Identifying the business drivers for change and the critical success factors is the most important element of any business transformations. John F. Rockart concludes that CSF’s are areas of activity that should receive constant and careful attention from management. Critical success factors are strongly related to the mission and strategic goals of your business project. Whereas the mission and goals focus on the aims and what is to be achieved. Critical success factors focus on the most important areas and get to the very heart of both what is to be achieved and how you will achieve it.

For most businesses, there are only a generally a limited number of areas – like sales or product development – which makes a business succeed. We can select critical success factor with insights and analysis. The success or failure of your business depends on how you approach your unique set of critical success factors. Understanding these factors and spending 100 percent attention to them is a sure way to add power to your efforts and jump start towards a new level of performance.

For better understanding about the steps on critical success factors approach, let’s go further than the business issues. Let us narrow our senses. The following definitions are mostly ideas based on the explanation given by myGoals.com.

•Very few people achieve success accidentally. Most people who achieve success first defined it then planned for it; they set a goal to achieve it. Critical success factors change with the goal.

Once you have defined personal success for yourself, your next step is to set goals that will lead you to your definition of success. You must create realistic, viable plans to achieve those goals. Follow your plans, be flexible, and enjoy the process. It’s not about keeping up with the Joneses. Here are five success factors that will directly affect your success in achieving any goal:

Critical Success Factor #1: Clearly Identify your Goal

The first step is to identify your special set of critical success factors. Clearly determine what the goal is. Be specific when identifying your factors. Next is setting new goals. Create a gap between where you are and your baseline and your target for that factor. Assign a start and completion date to each task in the plan. It’s ok to be working on several different tasks at the same time, but don’t over do it. Be realistic.

Critical Success Factor #5: Follow the Plan

By the time to you've reached this step, you will have defined a goal plan. You have now defined a baseline and a target for each factor. Complete each task in succession. Revisit your goal plan often and make sure to use your reminder system to keep you on track. Use any idea generation process you are comfortable with. Develop several possible initiatives to raise the level of that factor. With luck your ideas will work together and harmonize in terms of impact or implementation requirements. If you generate challenging ideas, select the best option. Choose based on return on investment, required resources, scheduling conflicts, time to impact, total cost, and possibility of success in opposition to risk of failure. Depending on the specific factor, and the size of the gap, you may plan to close it in stages or shoot the gap all at once. Once you launch your gap closing initiatives, continually measure your results. Report your progress to participants and stakeholders and post it publicly.

If the success plan is too long or a little bit complicated, try to break it into several smaller more manageable plans. Do not rely on luck or things outside you control as part of the success plan. Be flexible enough; expect your success plan to change before you complete it. Circumstances change, unexpected events occur, and your plan should be updated to adapt to changes. Use planning software to help construct your plan and modify it regularly. Seek the input of others who have expertise in the area or who have completed similar goal. Reward yourself for practical success as significant milestone are accomplished.

It helps you select and pursue personally fulfilling goals; you create a clear, defined path to your own personal success. Critical path method is extremely effective tools for creating viable plans and keeping you on track. As what the saying goes, “you can’t mange what you can’t measure”. Although it is painful to admit, the first time I read twilight, I feel a little in love with Edward Cullen, too. Who wouldn’t on the first reading? Edward Cullen is a physical perfection, with a century of knowledge, piano skills, a passion for Bella that borders on obsession and a silver Volvo car. Wow. He’s the typical boy we can never have, but still want anyway.

Many of these instances are common since people tend to forgot to elaborate what are the possible consequences when the plan fails.

Because of such reason, during IS planning an accurate prediction of the course of events sometimes not even possible. That is, hesitation is not only everywhere and large, but also impossible to get rid of it by merely working hard to do so. So what do we do about this burden of uncertainty? In a phrase, we should get on with business – learning to plan in a way that includes the expectation of surprises and the need for adaptations.

Information system planning a long time ago was possible only because all design and development was centralized and during those times was acceptable preliminary part because budgets were ever increasing, schedules always falling and information was not yet part of the corporations’ critical edge. Well, today is different, really different. Budgets are decreasing, and slipped schedules are being cited as preventing business alternatives. Budgets are one of the major challenges in IS planning. In the business world even outside world, constant change always happens and so high budget demands and poor funds. This two causes the IS plan to fail, not always but sometimes.

Businesses face significant challenges addressing information security program requirements and establishing a comprehensive and integrated security program. Information security is critical to the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data, and to protect assets required to support the business. Lack of management oversight contributes to inefficient practices and weaknesses in electronic information and physical security. These factors can also be a major challenge during the IS plan.

Since information technology has become commonplace in organizations, the potential for wasting time and money on unwise choices has not diminished, but rather has increased. Since every program and every task can benefit from computers and related technology, need for new and improve system continual arise within the organization. If systems are designed and implemented without some kind of plan, an organization risks having systems that are incompatible, cannot share data, require different hardware, or otherwise less than best possible. Given the major changes and challenges we will be facing in the coming years and decades, and the urgent need for us to begin addressing them as soon as possible, this next round of information systems plan may be the most important in our lifetimes. As a result, it is critical that they be done responsibly and well, because the opportunity to do them again may not occur for another decade.

I have been a working student here maybe for many purposes. It’s either because I need to encourage myself to build and practice professionalism or because of a small reason- I am bored with my life.

It was a nice feeling when I know I was a big help in the office. I know they need me and I also know that I badly need them.

Building a career is not easy. MCPS help me think that I really need to strive harder for me to be able to finish whatever race I started.

Well, working is like walking in a two way street, a journey in search for the future and a journey in search for my inner capabilities and talents.

What are the two most frequently experienced causes of frustration in IS professionals and users while working on an IS plan?

At first, I am still in the midst of finding my brain to help me shop for wonderful answers but unfortunately I cannot find one. I think I should rest, a kind of deep rest. Well, I know and I must know that I should keep on going.

As human we do have frustration or dissatisfaction, even vampires. When we fail, it keeps repeating because during the time of failure we also lose self esteem and self confidence. One of the best examples is that when we are having an exam and we study for all night but suddenly when the examination comes we don’t have any answers because the content of the exam are different form the one we have studied. Failure does not always have to be negative, it can also be a positive experienced if the procedures involved in the failure are analyzed and corrected. If one does something always right, there is no opportunity for learning. Failure gives opportunity for learning from previous mistake. When one does something right, only one confirms what is already known and how to do it. Learning takes place when a mistake is identified and it is corrected (Ackoff 1994). The idea is to take advantage of the failure and turn the negative feeling around by analyzing what went wrong and correcting it for future times.

But what if we are swimming on a broader sense? What if we are talking about those Information system professionals and users who are working on an Information system plan? As we all know, this kind of planning needs lots and series of research and serious study. Thus, if it is not successfully done, it will be one of the cause of frustrations of some IS professionals. It will be difficult for them to accept the fact that after all of their little feelings of distress and efforts their work will just be seen in the trash and not in the company.

But it is not actually the most frequently causes of frustrations but the minor one. Let us focus now on the frequent reactions of IS professionals while working on an IS plan. One of the things that make continuous efforts at the same time motivating and frustrating is what often seems to be a constant watercourse of problems. Strong skills in solving problem are essential to successful continuous improvement activities. Without which one will be doomed to solve the same problem repeatedly. Sometimes when life is playing with us, system failures can be the most frequent problem. It happens when a system does not meet its requirements. It is like a bullet in gun failing to designate its target.

Let us just put ourselves in the situation as an IT student having a laboratory exam in JAVA or any programming subjects. We are in the middle of making our program work and then all of a sudden (sometimes expected in our own Laboratory room) the computer shuts down. What will we feel? We are not just frustrated but we want to kill whoever person we saw, right? We know that we need to start over again but we are already running out of time. We always said “it is really the end of my IT life. Wala nako’y future ani. Huhuhuhu.” It is just like ending our life at the very exact moment because we already know what will be the outcome of the said exam.

The same scenario or problems also happens in IS professionals while working on an IS plan. Since they are always facing technologies they are always prone to system failures or even system breakdown.

In the business world, failures can be looked as opportunities to improve the process that contribute to business objectives and since information systems play a very important role in the daily operations of most businesses hence the development of such systems has become very important. It is known that project managers are guided throughout the development and successful completion of the projects. But still there are still many failures in IS projects.

One of the two common causes of frustrations is the project management failure itself. This is a common fact and even more complex in most companies. The common reasons behind these failures are poorly trained or inexperienced project managers who fails to set and manage expectations, poor leadership at any and all levels, failure to adequately identify, poor plans and planning processes or misalignment between the project plan and the business or other organization it serves and poor communication. Since the great deal of responsibility lies on project managers, they need to focus their interpersonal skills to get people accomplish their work. That is why we need to learn from our own mistake and the importance of learning about project failure so that we won’t repeat the same mistake in the future. Project manager is like a bridge that links key pieces together. And in order to reach pieces effectively he needs to have a balance of soft skills and technical knowledge.

But these sources of failures can be lessened. The most common practice is by having the project planned in totally different environment and trained those people with little or no specific knowledge in project planning. To top it all, the task of analysis and design must be carried out attentively. The team should be able to spot the weaknesses in a timely manner through the use of appropriate project management tools.

We need not to be affected with any kind of causes we will encounter that will just make us frustrated. As professional, we should act like one. Although during the time of making an IS plan it has still remain largely touched by crisis and failures. In the face of these problems, there has been always some distinguished technological or physical initiative.

What should be the nature of the relationship between the business plan and the IS plan?

What is really the nature between these two types of planning? We often identify their relationship for they both relates to businesses. Business plan and information systems plan are both decision making tools. They are quite related because they have the same purpose in which they prepare the business through planning to set out a convincing way to secure financing, internal or external or for the start-up or expansion of a business scheme. It has a goal which is to deliver the most valuable business information at the earliest time possible in the most cost effective manner.

But before I can put in plain words the nature of the relationship between the business plans and IS plan, I must first define what does these both means. Business plan as we all know is a formal statement or set of business goals, the reasons why they are believed attainable, and the plan reaching these goals. It may also contain background information about the organization or team attempting to reach these goals. The business goals being attempted may be for profit which typically focuses on financial goals or non-profit which tend to focus service goals or focuses on maximizing profit. Business plans may also target changes in perception and branding the customer, client, tax payer, or larger community. Business plan may be internally focused which target immediate goals required to reach the peripheral goals and external focused which targets goals that are important to external stakeholders, particularly external stakeholders. Having a formal, written business plan is so accepted as being crucial to success that there haven't been many studies or surveys to test this principle. If business plans were such a wonderful thing, there would be a significant and conclusive difference between businesses that have them and those that don't. Simply stated, business plan is a plan that sets out the future strategy and financial development of a business, usually covering a period of several years.

Information system plan on the other hand determines the sequence for implementing specific information systems. This kind of plan focuses on not only one information system but the entire suite of information systems for the enterprise. In lay mans term, information system plan is the end product of the information system project.

The nature relationship of the both plan is that without which there can be no exact view of the future plan of the company or shall we say it can give a hard time analyzing, solving or maybe in creating best plans for the company’s future.

Since business plan is one of the most important document of a company it is most frequently used by the managers and executives for internal planning. For a newly established business enterprise, the process of preparing a business plan serves a road map to the future by making entrepreneurs and the business owners itself think through their strategies. It can help in evaluating the basic business concepts; recognize the business limitations to avoid variety of mistakes. Thus, business plan serve as a blueprint or a guide in information systems planning.

The relationship between the two is that when the company is developing an information system plan which sometimes involves the whole organization, all members of the staff look at the overall organization to anticipate problems. This is where business plan completes the information system plan using the list of information systems needed, and many documents must be reviewed in which all the files are already been stated in the business plan. There are virtually no resources to help us set up what today’s business environment really demands. Since we are now living in a world where technologies are fast changing and the needs not just for good government services but also for better living would also continue to grow. But the sad part of it is that when the technology increases the need for new resources also increases but the availability of such resources decreases due to economic crisis. Last night I was thinking if I really have the skills to be a so called IT professional and if I were given a chance to be one what I can contribute. It makes me sick thinking about it. I spent four years of my life or even five years to be exact in the school to study information technology. It made me upset because until now I am still a little bit confuse if I have the chance to work as an IT professional. Every time people ask me if there is a future waiting for me after the five years of great efforts, hard workings, nose bleedings and bloody attempts to pass. I don’t know how to answer back for I am still in the process of meditating where will I go. I am still hesitant to accept the fact that destiny and reality can also take part in putting my self behind the line. I am still in the route of thinking whether I will be joining the line of competition or just give my self up. That is why if people around me keep on telling that I better stop and end this foolishness, they doesn’t realize that those words makes me more weaker and weaker. That is why since my first year in college, I am already losing my way in the track of life. That is why it makes me difficult to realize that I am already the one who keeps on putting my self down. The fact brought me on the wrong side of the law for I keep on blaming the persons evolving around me in making me lose control. But when the time comes that I already realize everything it is also the time when life seems too unfair to me.

I hate the fact that I am only getting half of the encouragement and words if wisdom I need both from my mom and dad. I can not accept the fact that even my parents are doing these things to me. They make me feel that I am the most worthless individual living in this world. They are against into the career I have chosen and maybe that is the reason why they keep on discouraging me. But I need not to be affected. I can make them proud of me. I will not let anyone stops me from achieving everything I want to be. I pity them for making me believe that there will be a difficult life waiting for me in my way to the top. But as time keep on passing, I am now become conscious to the fact that maybe my parents are right. There was a time when I feel I really need to end my foolishness.

It was just last night when I am totally won over that I was such a useless person. I am no use, and I am a loser. I should have been inspired to what our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal has said about me being one of the world’s future saviors. Well, in the idea of being the superwoman or Spiderwoman, the world’s greatest savior, I need to have a super power like those super heroes in our old time in order for me to save the world. I do not need to go to school to study and wait for so many years before I can contribute something. These thoughts of being one of them strike me a hundred times. I am not really a superhero. I do not have these super powers. I can not transform into someone who will be their knight in shining armor. There is nothing special in me. What Dr. Rizal trying to point out was my ability to do something in my own way. And the only power that I have is the knowledge.

Way back my first years in this college, I just keep on watching my classmates shifting to another course or transferring to another schools. I knew I can’t help them. Maybe they were just weak. But, this scheme and the reality struck me. Many of my co-students who were enrolled IT surrendered by now. Most of them were my friends. I thought of quitting so many times. Perhaps, I need to do what they did. I felt that I do not belong in this institution. It is giving me no air to the point that it makes me hard to breathe. It makes me feel to give up. And like them, it also makes me pathetic.

I never thought that I could go this far. I was already fed up. I have this feeling that I was on a dead end and there is no turning back. What else can I do? It was then I realize that I made a pledge that I won’t let anyone stop me from moving forward. Proceeding is the least option and the last thing on my mind. But here I am, alive and still surviving.

Kidding aside, I still have this dream of working in a place where I can make use of my bachelors’ degree and I know I can do it. Maybe I just need more time to carry it out. How much time do I need to have? I must be kidding my self. They say that a dream without a deadline is a goal. I should be making plans now. But where would I start? I have to accomplish it ten years from now. I have to plan now. I remember last time when I have my report in one of our subjects. I am task to put into details every article that is related to strategic planning. From there I learned that it is a process into which a person tries to answer questions about the future.
So, I asked God for a pause before I proceed. I need to rest my mind and my heart form worrying. I am living a life full of ups and down. Why is it that I need to stand up when I am down and I need to stand up straight again after I am losing my sense and good judgment from falling. I need to take a rest and continue deciding tomorrow.

At this time, I just get up from my bed. I am done thinking. I have now lots of ideas coming from my mind. It is just a one way process. Perhaps, I should start deciding whether I should take the straight way or go walk on a highway full of detours. If I will walk on a straight way, it is like going to the world with my dreams still remain as a dream. Living forever in a paradise earth is not just a dream. It is our loving creator purpose and what we need to do is just realize it. If I will do some detours it is like I am in the world with the reality, a world where I am making new plans in order for me to make the reality come true. I want to be name as an IT professional. Everybody does. Most failures start from plan failures. This point cannot too often be repeated. Some of would only realize if they had done a biggest mistake is when failure come. Planning for good future seems more likely to survive and prosper if people enter them with relatively full knowledge. Yes, getting to know our inner selves is essential. We need to know our strength and weaknesses and what should be the possible threats we need to face. Yes, drawing up the intentions of the heart of our own self takes effort and discernment. So we must plan a better approach or a line of attack to help us see our inner self.

Day to day of my life, I maybe confronted with terrible experiences, like; act of unkindness, criticism deceit, disloyalty, nastiness and spitefulness…cost against these realities, how would I stand and shape my future. With the many years I spend in this university is more than enough for me to sort it out what to have, so I will become victorious. As I go into the real world, I must always remember the lessons and knowledge and the value that were installed by my professors, the kind of knowledge that would help me in shaping my future in line of business.

And when the moment in time comes that God will not forbid me from being called as an IT professional, I must have a purpose in life. If I have no goal to live, I will find that life is empty. Being an IT professional is like changing to another paradigm, a broader horizon of challenges to test the strength of my desire to pursue higher objective in life. I have to aim high and be confident and have self-reliance in doing it, and couple it with interest and strong determination. In the world of an IT professional, I will be entering into another world of problems, but it is also a world of many challenges and opportunities that makes life worth living.

One of the best ways to win any game is to write the rules. And it should be done one step at a time. Before going to the place where I can put into practice the degree I have, I should know the basics. Basics not in terms of knowledge I did learn from school but in terms of professionalism. I should learn how to be responsible for anything I am planning to do. Peoples have different ways of making decisions. Some delays making a decision in the hope that the situation will resolve itself. But as to become a professional, I should also learn to consider and allow the views and opinions of others before making a decision. On the other hand, since I am still in the process of blooming and boosting my professionalism in the pursue of my career I should look at a decision that must be made, considering the options, choosing a plan of action, and taking responsibility for whatever the outcome. Making decision gives me a greater degree of control over the problem situation being addressed.
I need to know as early as now that in a real scenario making plans and decisions are not just like as if you are flipping a coin, playing a deck of cards that there will just two possible outcomes, either failure or success. If that what life is, it is a no sweat process and there can be no complexities.

Imagining my self in a place where I can practice my skills in information technology, I would rather not breathe for I know that I can’t easily turn back. I should learn how to be professional for in that kind of profession there are always no rooms for mistakes. I am expected to act in the course of the work according to certain rules of conduct and standard of behavior. I will be required to have power over a large body of knowledge from my extensive academic study during my school days specifically my college years. That is why as early as now I am in the process of improving my personality. I know that it will be a hard part for me for I need to have a power to be a cultured human. I usually let my heart rule my mind and that makes me more fragile. But I must change my insights in life. I must not let my heart rule my mind. In narrower sense, I need to be strong.

I have to train my self with the aim of bettering my performance as an individual not just in the field of my expertise but also in the course of life. I also need to enhance my self-consciousness practicality and freedom of expression that will serve as an aid in my independent learning. I am ought not to limit my self in learning.
Removing distractions and improving concentrations can also be one of the most important things I need to enhance. Having the aura of being a cheerful person, I am the one who ought to bring the crowd a joyful atmosphere. Even I am sometimes (defensive???) fanatical or foolish I can never lose control when it comes to learning. Learning is a process you do, not a process that is done to you. Education is an increasingly influential factor in employment. It is a lifelong process. It needs full time attention.

So before going to the place where I can be called as an IT professional, I would rather risk everything I have in order for me to attain what is needed to reach. Go power. Hehehe… Very directly, the need for a purposive transformation is a must for it will be the start to the development of one self.

This is the time of my life that I start to assume adult responsibilities. This is just the beginning to a serious employment and hard work with dedication in order to reach the goal of success. There are countless factors that make one successful, but I feel certain that I have been trained and prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary for involvement in the quest for better life.

Yesterday I live life to what it defines. I enjoy every minute by all means – heartaches, failures, happiness, friendship and love. Yesterday I was such a useless person. Well, I think I am. Sometimes I keep on thinking that I have all the time to do what I want so I tend to waste it. Yes, I dream for I am human. I dream big. I want to be in the top. But what hurts is the fact that I am not doing everything for me to get there. Maybe I dream to fail. I live to fail. But that was yesterday. Today is little bit different. I realized today that life is short, that I need to value every moment of it. I need to change my life for good because I don’t want to wait for the time to come that I will regret what I have been doing now. I don’t need to wait for someone to appreciate me before I will have the confidence to go on for the only person who knows I had truly done the best and who is thoroughly qualified to judge my performance is definitely me.

Thanks to the words I heard this morning. It sure helps in making me realize that the future is dependant to what I’ve been doing today. Planning is not enough; it must be in accord to doing something. As to what Jose Rizal said, the future and our future depend on us.

They say I am born being too ambitious. I always have a strong desire to be successful in life. I have feelings that someday I will become what I wanted to be. The secret I learned form my father was that in the end I will be measured not by how much I accept but by what I accomplish.

Year by year I become better equipped to accomplish the things I strive for. But what I am actually striving for? Five years from now? Where would I be? Soon after, I will be dealing with these questions. What shall I do with the rest of my life? Is there a future waiting for me after this course I take? Is there future waiting for me after spending almost five years in this institute?

Students are united by one common interest, to finish school and to be a part in the so-called business world. Like others, I also dream of improving my monetary lot in life. All my life, I constantly visualize my self of having someone to call mine, something that I could be proud of. This helps me to be confident and had the urge to be accepted by the people around me. Every so often, I’m visualizing mentally where I want to go and what I want to be when the time comes that going to college will come to an end.

When I was little, the only thing I only want is to make my parents proud at me in a way that I can repay all the efforts they exerted for sending me to school. But as time passes by, I realized that it’s not really what I wanted. College makes me realize that training and experience will give me a real edge in finding employment. Being an IT student, it helps me open my mind into some clearer vision. I can see the whole picture of my dream life many years from now. I am now craving to work in a world where I can practice my degree. Being one of the largest companies in the world, I have wanted to work in Microsoft Corporation where I can develop computer software. With the assistance of the staffs, I want to create new programming languages for software developers and a set of applications for personal computers.
And now, I am on my way into making this visualization become a reality.

A university degree no longer guarantees success in the job market. Is it really a fact? Sooner or later I will be dealing with this challenging question. What shall I do with the rest of my life? Is there a future waiting for me after this course I take? I feel like the youth who said: “What I consider to be successful is maintaining the comfort level that I grew up with.”

Like others, I also dream of improving my financial lot in life, to be able to pay back the career that my parents and family gave me through education in order for me to achieve a real fulfillment. But is there more to success than material gain? To attain so-called success, career climber must often compete with one another in a life-and-death struggle for recognition. Nevertheless, is a college degree always worth the huge commitment of time and money it demands? Researches indicate that college degree earn higher salaries and suffer less unemployment than high school graduates.

Nowadays, the demand of call center agents (as an example) with at least has the skills in oral communication is increasing. As a result, a college degree holder is just a plus factor because this kind of job is not usually requiring a degree for as long as you are good in verbal communication and willing to take shifts. In view of these facts, the quantity of university graduates employed in line with the chosen field declined.

Because of this, many youths have decided against a university education. Many have found that training and experiences has given them a real edge in finding employment. A youth who manages to get passing grades through guessing, cramming or even cheating never really learns how to think. School grades are a major source of anxiety. It can mean the difference between graduating and being left behind, between acquiring a well-paying job and getting only a minimum wage. Test results can reveal areas of strength and weakness of individual students and act as an encouraging device for study. In addition, education means more than racking up points on tests. It means developing a persons thinking ability. It is thus important that you view grades, not as a helpful means of gauging progress at school.
I, as a student sometimes blame my poor performances and failing grades on sources beyond my control, unfair test questions, and prejudiced teacher. Laziness may often be the real reason for my low grades. Good students, however, take responsibility for their learning. Personal motivation helps you keep going. I must put myself on a schedule and organize my time. Yes, how good my grades are depends for the most part, not on factors beyond my control, but on ME – how hard I am willing to study and apply myself in school.
But, this is what some students might claim, including me as well. They sincerely feel they are already working themselves to the bone but not getting any results. Perhaps, you are not studying as hard as you think, and some changes would be in order.
Failing a test especially after studying hard to pass it can devastate my self respect. But educator Max Rafferty reminds us: “As long as we live, we’re graded on what we know, how well we get results. A school that kids the kids into thinking that life are going to be all Roman candles is not a school, it’s a dream factory.” The shame of failing a test may well be worth it if it urges us to learn from our mistakes and improve.

When we are referring to big businesses, outsourcing is more illustrious. It is because it improves the quality through contracting out the service with a new service level agreement. They have an access to operational best practice that would be too difficult or time consuming to develop in-house. When big companies outsource their information systems they will have an access to a larger talent pool and a sustainable source of skills. Outsourcing is subcontracting a process. It involves the transfer of the management or day-to-day execution of an entire business function to an external service provider.

But, outsourcing the information systems function is one of the biggest possible decisions to be made by a school, especially USeP. When we outsource, it also means that we are withdrawing the business function involving the transfer of people and the sale of resources to a provider because we are hiring somebody else to do all or part of the work instead of the person or a company originally hired.

The main business criticism of outsourcing is that it fails to realize the value of the business that the outsourcer promised the client. Because we are a school and we are keeping important records of the students, it is better when we will just keep our Information system in-house. When we in-source we can maintain the control of critical production or competencies.

There is no need for outsourcing the information system because USeP has staff and lots, I think, of human resources that can be considered as an expert in the field of creating information system and things like making databases. We have staffs that are brilliant enough to provide the needs of the school. We can always develop the information system function by improving the ideas we can acquire outside the organization. Although outsourcing offers a lot more, the school can minimize the cost if they will hire people inside the organization and we can make sure that our own concept and design are out of harm's way and protected.

Never fail to appreciate the power of smile. At one time, I was very mad while walking down the corridor when suddenly I was bumped by someone whom who made me more mad as hell. I was about to shout at him and gave him a very angry look when suddenly he say sorry with such a big and attractive smile plus the factor that he was actually a good looking man. I realized then that when that happens it doesn’t matter if I was hurt and very mad. What mattered most was the fact that there he was standing in front of me and with all the broad smile ease all those anger. Never underestimate the power of smile. A smile is one of the most powerful tools of human behavior.

“A smile costs nothing but gives much,” someone once wrote. “It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but memory of it sometimes last forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it. Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Intel’s smallest chip

At the coming-out party of Intel’s all new Atom processor; two divers plunged into a room-sized aquarium at the Manila Ocean Park to unfurl a banner underwater welcoming the world’s smallest chip.

Intel says it is its smallest announcement ever but one that could have the biggest impact on the computing public.

“We aim to make the computer available to almost everyone,” says Navin Shenoy, vice president and general manager of Intel Asia-Pacific. “With the coming of Atom, this could happen very soon.”

The chip, only one sized of a fingernail, was based on the revolutionary new low-power Intel Atom microarchitecture and manufactured on industry-leading 45nm Hi-K Metal Gate technology. It was specifically built to power an emerging class of compact mobile devices called netbooks and nettops or computers designed for Internet use and content consumption.

The newly launched Atom has clock speed of 880 Mhz to 187 ghz and with worlds smallest transistors. Preceding the Atom was the Centrino processor thechnology, which made computers mobile. “Of course we take that for granted now,’ Shenoy says.
To build Atom, the company put together over a thousand engineers to work on the chip which they envisioned to have low power consumption, small from factor, lower cost but not necessarily short of features.

Ricky Banaag, Intel microelectronics Phils. Country manager says affordability is still the key barrier for ubiquitous Internet use in the country. As of end-2007, there were only about 4.9 million Internet users locally and only around one million have subscription to a broadband connection. The opportunity to tap the so-called emerging market, specifically majority of households with no computers and those that already have computers connected to the Internet but still need secondary devices is big.

THE SIX PATHS TO PEACE

To address these roots of the armed conflicts, the NUC recommended the Six Paths to Peace:

The FIRST PATH is the pursuit of social, economic and political reforms aimed at addressing the root causes armed conflicts and social unrest. This may require administrative action, new legislation, or even constitutional amendments.

The SECOND PATH is consensus – building and empowerment for peace. This component includes continuing consultations on both national and local levels to build consensus on the peace and reform agenda, and the mobilization and facilitation of people’s participation in the peace process.

The THIRD PATH is the pursuit of peaceful, negotiated settlement with the different rebel groups. This involves the vigorous efforts toward the completion of exploratory talks, the holding of formal peace negotiations, and the achievement of a final negotiated peace settlement with each of the rebel groups.

The FOURTH PATH is the implementation of programs for reconciliation, reintegration to mainstream society, and rehabilitation. These include amnesty and other measures to respond to concerns for legal status and security and community – based assistance programs to address the economic, social and psychological rehabilitation needs of former rebels, demobilized combatants, and civilian victims of the internal armed conflicts.

The FIFTH PATH seeks to ensure the welfare and protection of civilians, and to reduce the impact of the armed conflicts on them, reorganizing the possibility of continuing hostilities even as peace is pursued by the ways of peace. These include the strict implementation of laws and policy guidelines for the protection of human rights, limited suspension of offensive military operations where possible, intensified delivery of basic services to conflict areas, and recognition of Peace Zones as agreed by concerned sectors of the community.

The SIXTH AND FINAL PATH seeks to build, nurture and enhance a positive climate for peace. These include continued confidence – building measures between government and the rebel groups, and peace advocacy and education within the rest of society.

These six paths to peace are complementary and mutually reinforcing and must be pursued simultaneously in order to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting peace.

A CALL FOR PEACE...

Why we keep on asking for peace to happen? The question of peace is unavoidable. It needs process and people who will make that process turn into actions. The fight for peace is a just fight. We can prove that its realization will not after all be as difficult, for in the end, when there shall be peace it is only our suffering that we shall lose. But with what is currently happening in the present day is already showing signs of turning our small hope of achieving peace from bad to worse.

The all-out war against the MILF has been brought into quick focus what has often been called the “Mindanao Problem”. These refer to the demand by the MORO people for a separate state. However, it has to do with the lack of socio-economic development in the Muslim-dominated provinces that has kept the MORO people in a continuous state of poverty.

Peace talks between government and the MILF rebels’ raises the hope of attaining peace. But the recent warfare between the two groups tells us that the call for peace cannot be easily acquired by simply talking and negotiating. That is why MILF is rushing us to make harsh choice between their version of war and their version of peace (from the Philippine star).

Darwin T. Rasul, the author of Peace Initiatives believes that peace shall soon be in the offing because we have not wavered in this faith.

It is possible to have peace if both parties can unite on one common good. That is for bringing the development of economic problem that would extirpate poverty in the region. War is not the way to peace and a brilliant man will find a way not to fight a war. We can make a difference not just a citizen in this country but for the good it brings. It is possible and always possible to attain peace.

Do we live in a physical world that we can touch or do we live in a world we create in our mind. Why can’t we attain peace? Is it really that tricky and dangerous before we can achieve it? Is war always the solution? Does praying can help? We always prayed for it. Is it still not enough? Yes, we still need a bridge; we need it for us to be able to get peace. How? Let it be our stepping stone. It’s always easy.

We want peace. We all wanted to sleep serenely at night without worrying anything. We always wanted it. Let us initiate peace. Let there be peace and let it be anywhere in the world.

Slow internet connection is one of the major problems in our school. The university is creating ways to solve this crisis. But it still exists. Improving internet connectivity specifically on our University (USEP) is such a big responsibility. For all we know, our school can’t meet the expense of having these high technologies.

But, if the university will hired me as their IT consultant, I would suggest solutions that can help in improving internet connectivity by not spending a lot of money. Downloading can cause the delay of connection. To address these dilemma and as the newly hired IT consultant in my university, limiting the sites to be viewed by the students can be a big part in achieving fast internet connection. Few won’t agree to this kind of plan because it will lessen the students’ freedom in using the internet which they paid for but it’s worth the sacrifice if we will do such things.

Computers with viruses are prone to damaged and affects internet connection because it lessens the computer performance. Thus, updating and downloading anti viruses in each unit will reduce threats of damage. Other than these solutions, proper computer maintenance (in and out) is needed.

If given a large amount of money. I will suggest buying new sets of computers with high memory so that the students will be able to browse the internet faster and worry free. These solutions will not be possible unless the university will pay the price for the benefit of the plan and by making an effort towards finding an easier way to improve internet connectivity.

State of the NAtion Address

One of the highlights in President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo 58-minute State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July 28, 2008 is about the text rate cost of messages between networks cut down to 50 centavos. She stated that “Texting is a way of life. I asked the telecommunications companies to cut the cost of messages between networks. They responded. It is now down to 50 centavos.” But the National Telecommunications Commissions confirmed the text rate cut between networks that it was just good for three months. I think that it was half good but not totally better because it is not for a lifetime. Hehehe.. Cutting down its cost is one of the great things our president has ever done. At least, she sited a possible and visible way to increase our way of living.

She also talk about the 350 million training partnership with the private sector to qualify 60,000 for call centers, medical transcription, animation and software development, which have a projected demand of one million workers generating $13 billion by 2010. Many years ago, the demands of nurses inside and outside the country are far above the ground. But due to the advancement of technology, the demand of IT is also on its way up. As for me, by being one of those students who study IT, it is a great relief that President Arroyo clearly sited that she will give emphasis on the demand of such courses. It seems that I have already a vision of what will be the possible outcome of the said project for those students who are studying computer related courses.

In her speech, she states that she will not let no one’s political plans threaten nation’s survival. “As your President, I care too much about this nation to let anyone stand in the way of our people’s wellbeing.

Our country and our people have never failed to be there for us. We must be there for them now.” Sometimes, we think that SONA are just promises which are meant to fail. Filipinos are known for being Christians. As a citizen in our country, it is our responsibility to do our part and follow whatever plans our national government has in store for us. Sometimes, we just pray and ask God for help in making our country abhorrence free and peace. Our prayers are sometimes full of wishes asking God to help us in solving problems in life and in our country. But why not we solve this by our own and not ask God? God is just our strength. We are the one who provide a vision for how our nation should be in the future. Our president cannot do it all by herself. Let’s act now, as a group.

Information technology performs the key role in the development not just the business itself, but also for the assurance that its strategic objectives are not in a risk by IT failures. Risk with business associated with IT/IS changes are increasingly a big issue on the business IT failure.

What are the risks? Since it plays such a significant part in most project approaches and functions, business personnel must think of some possible risk associated in IS change.

An expense risk happens when there are some transactions to be made and the company fails to provide enough funds to support the investment made in IT.

Access or Security Risk, in many countries, it is required by law that the personal data must be kept private. Due to the increase demand of IT and change in IS in most businesses, revealing of personal data is such a big risk for it will be available to those without appropriate authority which will turn out to loss of privacy.

Integrity Risk happens when some data are not anymore reliable for the reason that they are incomplete and not accurate. In this day and age, we are experiencing this kind of problem through internet. I have heard lots of rumors that information in internet now is not anymore reliable. The reliability of information in IT is such a great menace for it causes IT failure.

An infrastructure risk takes place when the organization does not have enough IT infrastructure and systems that can efficiently support the needs of the business. Changes in information technology can also be the cause of system failure which results to damage in business development.

Project ownership risk occur when a company choose to change some of its strategies in IT/IS business plans and the future business IT project fails to meet its objectives through lack of liability and assurance and due to the new IT business approaches.

In changing business approaches especially in IS/IT, we need to deem some lists of risks and established some possible actions to this menace. We need to fully identify and know all information that needs to be protected and managed. Implement controls to cover the missing areas that expose the organization to a high level of risk.

Information technology alone is just merely a tool which is a substitute for the needs of the development not just in information technology but in the way we live life as well. It is built to meet all our needs. Most of the obstacles which we believe stands in our way are just illusions. As a competent people we are bound to create ways to make a one good step in taking away these hindrances that blocks our way to success.

Therefore, the challenge is not only to use technology to foster development, but to transfer the knowledge, skills and competencies to use it.

They should be trained in operating businesses and communication skills. Performance appraisals can also help in developing strong and wide competencies for it encourages the staff to work harder.

• Recognize the customer as an important resource. Costumer is one of the important resources in businesses. A costumer maximizes the chance of the improvement of the business.

• Measure performance and use the results to initiate improvements and change. Measuring performance will indicate areas that need improvement, build credibility and prove to the government department that the Information Technology improves business processes. It also measures the costumer satisfaction.

These practices will help develop the leadership of the information technology department and contribute to the successful management of Information technology resources.
